It aint over till its over
on: November 27, 2006, 22:02:50 PM
I had to run a 9 mile round trip errand yesterday through downtown on game day, as I live minutes from the (American) football coloseum. Car was out of the question as they close off the bridges for some bizarre reason. Jumped on the Redline fixie and rode down to the ped bridge, thinking its only halftime, Ill have it to myself. Right. Just packed with people whod given up on a 21-0 score, and me barrelling through having to shout to part the sea walking on the bike lane.

Did my errand and rode back, about 1/3 of the coloseum had drained out and it was early in the third quarter. Everybody was grumbling about the Titans losing yet again...

Of course the last half was spectacular from what I hear, one of the most amazing comebacks in NFL history. Our Titans won 24-21 in a mad push to score. All these people pissed away major money just to miss that.

It invokes a wee bit of schadenfreude.

Id leave too, at half time youve already sat on your arse for 2 hours, longer than even a Man U home match with the score 1 all. And they only play 60 minutes of game time...what a joke.

Stopping every 12 seconds so that wide arsed front line they laughingly call Atheletes can get some oxygen before they drop down dead.

What are you talking about?? I love most sports short of basketball on TV (boring!), and though standard football can be sheer poetry on a good day, American Football is usually more entertaining as a whole. As long as you know the fairly complex rules. Dont even start..you people play cricket.

I find all spectator sports boring for some reason, and especially so on TV, despite often knowing the rules :/

I used to love playing rugby but watching it was another matter, same with cricket.

I spent weeks watching US football when it first arrived in the UK and learned the rules, although I have forgotten them now, just trying to like it. I found it was limited in options when compared to Rugby. I just dont bother watching televised sports now.

Soccer and Icehokey is ok to watch on the tube but golf or sailing ?!

I know it is football in UK but it could be confusing for some ;)

Soccer is a specific set of rules that the game is played by, and one of the few that have had a rule introduced purely for spectator enjoyment of the sport (the modern off side rule).

Many other forms of the game exist including one played at a private school where a goal hasnt been scored since 1908!

Played Dynasty Rugby (almost like rugby but with giant shoulder pads, aka American Football) when I was living in America and couldnt find a rugby team to play for. Despite knowing the rules and the intricacies of plays etcetera its still piss dull.

Baseball....Id rather have my pubic hair plucked out one at a time by a PMSing Czech power lifter while having my arse grapes used as 100M staring blocks spikes and all than sit through a game either on or off tv.

Ice Hockey is about the best North American sport, IMHO. Speed and violence in good measure.
