Bike racks?
on: June 03, 2013, 15:36:24 PM
So, due to my upcoming unemployment, I'm in the planning stages of a summer of travel.

Trip one will be to cycle to Poole (~10 miles) to catch a ferry to Guernsey, spend a few days there cycling around, before getting the ferry to Jersey, few days, ferry back to Poole and then cycle home. Maybe looking to make it a 10 day trip or something.

I've never had a bike rack/panniers, so I'm looking for any tips or recommendations. Guess we can wash our clothes etc at the laundry, but we'll also want to take cameras etc.

Tbh the racks are all much of a muchness.
You're probably best looking on bike radar for reviews of panniers .

http://www.ortlieb.co.uk/bike.html panniers for the win - design classics, hoping mine are a lifetime investment.

I have a Blackburn rear rack, not the lightest but pleasingly robust. Also worth checking what mounting points you have depending on type of bike you want to fit this to.

I never really realised just how expensive the panniers and racks are :| Getting the racks and bags will probably cost more than the ferry fares for the trip!
