Signed on the dotted line for her today.

Its a 320 TD SE Compact. So has all the toys in there etc. Its in topaz blue, and has 50k on her for £9k, which is well priced for the diesel compact. Needed a diesel as im moving away from work so will be doing more miles! Please with the power it has at 150BHP and 33NM of torque.

I know a lot of people think BMW drivers are tools....but im not one :) I know knighty isnt either :)

Bad car, imo. Good looking car, dont worry about looking like a tool, people expect you to drive like a wamker so theyll make allowances. Pics dude.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

bmw drivers dont get slagged off so much anymore, the people with nothing better to do have moved onto 4x4s now :)

so what do you think so far then ?

I thought you were only going to get one for a couple of grand so you could put the rest twardas a house ?

I aint picked it up yet! Should be a week on Saturday at the latest. So will get pics then :)

Yeah, I was going to keep the money for a house. But ive worked it out, with my wage I should be able to afford both. So will start looking for a house properly in July/August time.

TBH, dont see why you think its a bad car. Although, fair enough, as it is your opinion :)

Yeah, the compact isnt to everyones taste. Which is fair enough to be honest. Does me fine though. Dont need anything bigger just for me, and the handling is good as it isnt really long etc

Should have it a week tomorrow. Just spoke to the salesman a few minutes ago

Ive never really driven a rear wheel drive before, so is there anything to look out for?

Also, ive only really ever driven petrols. Is there different driving styles for them? I.e. Can you still slow down using your gears in diesels etc?

Cheers :)

The only thing to really watch out for with RWD is the backend coming out when you lose traction, i.e fast into corners/cornering on wet roads. I shouldnt think youll have a problem with that though. Other than that youll notice no difference.

Yeah, thought that might be it to be honest. It does have Automatic Stability Control + Traction control (which you can turn off), so that will keep me on the road better

not notice any difference ?  pah

nice being able to floor it in 1st without just wheelspinning it :)

accelerate into the corners, drop a gear and labour the engine out of them and youll fly along :)

Ive heard the most torque is mid rev range on some Diesels.

So can you rev the balls off a diesel then? As I use to in petrols, but didnt know if its different in diesels? Obviously they dont rev as high etc.

If youre going to hit the corners, slow in, fast out. Its not going to drag itself around like a FWD.

Au contraire. You can try and revv the nuts off a diesel, itll just peter out at 4k.  All the effort is delivered lower down, mostly at 2000 rpm or so, unlike petrol car which will give more as the revs go higher (to a point).
The big difference is, when you go through a corner with the throttle off, you can get the gas on a lot earlier in a higher gear, and the torque really pulls you round, whereas to get the same effect in a petrol car, youd have to be 2 gears lower, and as soon as you got the throttle open, youd be changing up as youd run out of revs, mid corner (hassle).

Ceathreamhnan is spot on, no point reving the tits off it, itll do nothing for you.

which engine does that one have ?

mined the 6 cilinder, but i;m thinking yours must be the 4 silinder ?

for me, mine pulls well at 1500rpm, then pulls good and hard from 2000rpm, and i change up at about 3500rpm...

mined a bit strange because theres so much tork there, at first youll think the car isnt very "nippy".... then you realise that your driving along at 1000rpm and just think the car is slow because its still pulls well, just not really well :)
