Im guessing they expect pilots cars to be in long term car parks a lot, drive expensive cars, and to a point be dicks on the road. Her partner, also a pilot, thinks the cruise control in his BMW is awesome and loves to show it off. Whenever he puts it on I just want to jump ou the car, hes used to autopilot in the skies, I on the other hand cant help but wonder what happens when it goes wrong!

I read the above. Just because you have a company van, and goods arent left in it overnight, does not mean a crook at some point wont think that perhaps you might one day need to use your own car, or transport something in your car to your van or whatever. I mean, the plumber neighbour leaves things locked up in his house, didnt stop some people going round finding the addresses of registered plumbers and checking them out late at night, easier than breaking into a property. And lets face it, people wanting medical supplies are going to be off their heads so they wont know any different :D

I dont see your point :P Im not a plumber, im a courier, someone who picks up items in a plain white van with no signage and takes it to a lab, in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep, so for a thief to come to the conclusion i might have medical supplies in my van (which i dont cus im a courier who picks stuff up), and then come to the further conclusion to rob my car for said medical supplies is a little bit far fetched. Where is the said thief going to get the idea i have medical supplies in the first? Why not cookies or tubs of lard?

The point is not that you do/dont have stuff in the car...the point is you said veterinary courier and I made the link, and that someone else might too, someone else being the insurance co. or scum. Doesnt matter how far fetched the scenario is, theyd consider it in the risk assessment for insurance? I know its probably totally against company policy for you to pick stuff up, go home, and then deliver in the morning, but the sad fact is someone desperate enough could still be willing to try it. *takes of tinfoil hat*

I know how stupid it sounds, but my point is anyone with a courier job could be looked at by the insurance co. as being at slightly more risk than joe bloggs due to the nature of transporting "valuables". I mean, look at all the mess the transporter got into..

I see your point now. But ill go for the idea someone else posted earlier about the tireness, i can see that being a more obvious reason, because the reason you have posted does sound rather silly :P

Its funny, i didnt think i was a courier cus i hold zero goods at the start of the run, and i pick up very small items only, i do have access to cars, its just that the vans are cheaper to buy.

Aye, tiredness does make more sense, the same for pilots I guess what with the limits on the no. hours they can fly etc.

just a shade under £300 fully comp with the car parked on the road (W-Reg 1.8 Vectra).  The fact I dont take the old thing to work helps, shaved £150 or so off the policy.

I always found Van insurance was more expensive.  The insurance company assume that youre using it for business and charge accordingly, even if you say otherwise.

Rip Off MotherF*ckers.

Just rang to change my address, and they jumped the policy by just under £250!  When I enquired as to why they said it was because I had moved to an area of high car crime.  Bit more research its not that!  Argued the toss with them, and they only offered to deal when it turned out they are actually loading my premium for my wife being on it as a learner driver.  despite the fact shes been on it for over 3 years, and its not made a bit of difference until now.  Ended up paying an extra £60 anyway including fees.  The REAL annoyance is Ive moved to a nicer area, they car is garaged at night, and Im still walking in to work! They really dont take much notice of where you live!

My insurance went up £100, now at £700 for the FTO, Im 27 with 4 years NCB, no convictions, driving related or otherwise.

Most quotes I got from the usual car insurers were £1500+, had some over £3,000

Just been speaking to my Sisters Insurance broker.  Hes just laughed down the phone at the prices Ive been quoted.  Quick working and Im looking at £240 Fully comp, no claims protected and legal cover.  Might just cancel it anyway and go with him!

Spent the afternoon ringing round for a decent quote, going off sites like Gocompare, confused,  comparethemarket the cheapest was £460 with protected no claims and legal cover, which for a 41 year old with 5 years no claims, no points and driving a KA is ridiculous! ...Granted my postcode is not the best but still!

Got a good deal of these http://www.choicequote.co.uk/
£348 fully comp, protected no claims, £250 excess and legal cover, (the price was £330 without protected), last year I paid £290 without protected.

I’m now wondering if it’s time for people to stop using comparison sites and start ringing around again for the best deal.
