Not too shure what to do about my 205
on: June 29, 2008, 13:25:59 PM
Hi All,

What a weekend iv had - Came back from my mums on fri night and tried to bring my window back up, these are electric windows on my 205 just to let you all know and the electric window on my side of the car just totally f**ked up and the whole window nearly fell throug the door lmao, and also this affected the locking on my side of the car and also i couldnt shut the door properly because the cache on the door was stuck and wouldnt shut. After a bit of fiddling about i managed to fix the cache so it shut properly and it locked and also managed to force the window up in place on the car for the night and yest went to my local garage and the guy said basically the whole mechanism on my electric window is knackered beyond repair and if i would want it repairing he would need to order a whole new part in and the total job would cost me £135  :-( ... oh great, also he said that my tyres would also need doing within the next couple of months as he could tell that 3 of them were on the limit which i already knew but he was just reminding me but he knew another guy at another place which he could do all 4 tyres for around £200 plus the new bumper i got still needs fitting but the guy could do that too but he didnt say how much for. Great more money this is going to cost but lastly my dad has offered to help me out get a new car as both me and him agree that this is going to cost too much to repair as the car isnt worth that much anymore and there is also the possibility something else is bound to go wrong with the car sooner or later. What shall i do take my dads offer or try my best to get the car repaired? My car is a 1.1 1995 Peugeot 205 Mardi Gras btw, my budget for a new car is possibly £2K, and im looking to get either a 1999/2000 Ford Escort or 2000 Ford Fiesta.

If i get a new car the 205 will be up for sale.

Thanks - Liam

Get down to the breakers yard, get another window mechanism and fix it yourself?

The bumper shouldnt be too difficult either, and sooner or later all cars need new boots.

What is more likely to have happened is that the rails bonded on to the bottom of the glass have come off

Depending on what age it is, it could have a channel that the glass sits in and that is pushed up and down by the window mech - this channel collects moisture and rots away.

Its a piss easy fix with scrapper parts anyway - just need to be careful

As the other have said its not usually hard to fix.

Not point buying a new part, the scrap yard will have a 2nd hand one available for a lot less.

And tyres for your motor shouldnt cost £200 fitted, shop around you should be able to get fitted tyres for around £30-35 each. If you dont do the mileage you could even consider part worns, usually you will get good tyres for low cost.
