I found out today my VW Golf is leaking petrol. Its happening near the rear wheel on the driver side. Its a small cylinder thing about 8cm or so in length and 4cm in diameter. The car has currently been left with my local VW and I have to make a booking early in the morning with the service department. However I was wondering if any1 has any idea what this could be. Im worried about the repair costs lol.

sounds like the fuel filter
shouldnt be too expensive its a service item after all
-
maybe fuel filter.
Probably electronic pump.
-
nah itll be in tank surely?
-
Well its either mechanical, in the tank or electrical and if its showing its not in the tank ;)
Could be the fuel filter but it just seems an odd place to stick one. Im not clued on golfs TBH, especially as there was very little info
-
the astras, cavs and calibras from vauxhall have them there so i kinda thought it was probably going to be that.
If its got no wires to it tho itll be a filter ;)
-
Thats the fuel filter on most golfs - the pump is submerged in those models

Hmm why is the first thing that pops into my mind is to do what Macgyver would do and bung it up with Chocalate.
Might not help too much though, but eating the chocalate might give you time to think about what to do. :D

If you left it at the dealership, your wallet will soon be hemmoraging as well.
Fuel filters cost around $50USD tops if you do them yourself, add $300 for various made up bullsh*t if you have the dealer do it.

Yer it ended up costing £95. Thing is Im clueless when it comes to cars. I think I need to try and gain more knowledge about bits and bobs. I know my PCs so I guess its similar in some respects.
About the fuel filter, it was actually corroded!

Snap! (http://www.tekforums.co.uk/posts/list/22.page)
Pattern fuel filter costs about £15 in halfords... if its "complicated" (like mine) it will have 2 unions to undo, if its simple (like on Vauxhalls) it will be two jubilee clips
