Will be in the market for a Hilux or, at a push, a Nivara next year.
Used/ex-demo - any tips for finding the best deal or is a private sale the best way to go?
This is a daft question. I is tired. :o

It might be worth looking into used Navara's reliability because I quite often come across 100's of people on ebay offering to fix engine failures on them, even when I havent search for anything like that so it could be a common problem.
Hilux are bullet proof and so are mitzi warriors and Izuzu Rodeos.

Yeah, there's always a doubt about Nivaras. Great-looking vehicles but Hilux are widely regarded as bullet-proof, if a little spartan.
Looking at the used ones direct from Toyota, anyone would think that the old addage that 'a car loses half its value as soon as you drive it off the forecourt' is utter BS... they're clearly taking the p*ss.

I had an L200
Had it for 2 years and not a single problem - it was an 04 plate
If I got another I would prob look at a dodge rodeo

I would assume the Dodge Rodeo would be quite hard to get parts for. Hilux wins!

I know next to nothing about the type of vehicle you're looking at, but that has only ever been true for most models. For several years a Land Rover Defender went up in value when you drove it off the forecourt, because the waiting list was so long for a new one that a slightly second hand one you could have today could command a higher price. I could easily believe a similar effect could apply to something like a Hilux.

Its a Toyota, its also been proven to be ahem should i say the best 4x4! Top Gear can't be wrong! And what vehicles due you see driving around in the Middle East, not Landrover Defenders thats for sure.
They make good money when broken or sold as salvage, one reason they hold their value is because they are very popular as export vehicles.

The new hilux will not be a patch on the old ones! Trust me i have worked with farmers for 20 years lol!
It all depends what you want it for if i am honest, if its going to be worked i would look at older izuzu as they are BOMB PROOF! They just will not die
Old Hilux also great, the Nivara is fine engine wise, its the clutches you have to watch, they do not last long ;)
If you compare the chassis on older and newer 4X4's you can see they are just not meaty like they used to be. I know this is all to do with MPG but still something to consider.
If you do get an old Hilux, 3.0 only! Aside from the power, they are better on fuel (much better on the motorway) and are not prone to needing a new head.
