Has anyone owned and drove for a long-ish period a LHD car on UK roads?

I really fancy a Mustang, something like http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1788683.htm , but dont know how practical a LHD would really be in the UK? Ive driven plenty of LHD cars in Europe without a problem, and drove my RHD cars in Europe too, which I didnt really find hard at all.

Do you think it will be far too much effort with LHD?

a mate of mine had a 993 in LHD for a long time and reckons it hardly bothered him.. im not sold on the idea though, saying that aide from car parks how often do you need to be sat on that side of the car, sure youd need to be a fair way back to see round another car for an overtake but hardly the end of the world.

Oh yeah, I didnt think of car parks!

I have a Czech friend who brought his LHD over here, and he said he does mind about it really.

The problem with spending a fair amount of wedge on a LHD and hating it is a bit worrying really though.

I spent a year in my (RHD, obviously) Yaris in France and it wasnt much of a pain, you soon become used to the enlarged blind spots and such.

Only has some mild annoyances- car parks reaching across to get a ticket, blind corners/junctions where they use convex mirrors to help with vision and the mirror is aimed at the wrong side of the car, overtaking can be a pain but just a case of dropping a lot further back to see around cars and isnt a problem if the car is fast enough (which Im assuming with your vehicular past it would be).

Other than minor annoyances that dont come up particularly often it is fine and not an issue, wouldnt let it stop you if its something very special, what you after?

Cheers for the reply Jaimz.

I fancy something like this http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1788683.htm They are only 300bhp, which isnt super fast.

I know they arent that special, but I love them for some reason. Id have to test drive on, as they might be a load of turd.

I love the look of the mustang and I always notice them on the roads, but that interior is awful.

Its not too bad - overtaking is a PITA though.

Pulling out from some junctions is also hellish sometimes.

Plus, people automatically stare at the passenger and think theyre driving. Being a passenger is awful in LHD.

Youd def want to look at getting that gas converted!

I may not get one to be honest, as I half think the LHD aspect would be a PITA.

But yeah, I think I would get LPG for the 4.6 V8

Drive over to France for a visit and see if you mind driving there, its reverse to here so it should give you an idea if you can live with it or not.

It will push your premiums up a little too.

American cars tend to look great, sound great but some drive like a constipated elephant!

Insurance is less for what Im paying now ;)

I drove round Europe last summer, and xmas in my car. I didnt mind it at all, but it was new to me, so not sure if Id like to do it for a long period or not really.

You do become used to it and dont even notice after a while tbh.

Marks point about people was spot on, amount of horrified looks from Frenchies who glances and thought no-one was driving the car cos it was RHD was funny.
