If you get a spare few quid get the wheel alignment checked.

edit: and be careful in the wet :D

Listen to that man, one of the women from work planted her first one into a tree on a roundabout in the wet due to a little over-enthusiasm in a RW-drive machine.

and mazdas rather wide tolerances for the factory suspension alignment.

seen a few of the new ones written off due to out of wack rear suspension.

Before ya do, have some fun in an empty area misaligning the car. If you havent driven RWD hard before, its nice to go out on a slippery drizzly day where you have some room to break the tires free and see how it handles, learn to recover from a skid, etc. Most of us who drive FWD end up taking it for granted. Plus, its an excuse to have some fun. :D

^^^ good idea tbh

always nice to know what your car can do :D

.... tho dont over-do it..... I flored it going round a bend in mine in the wet to see what it could do... and it held rock solid all the way upto 90mph when the backend kicked out and send me spinning in circles around and around and around... and around... and around...

But speak to the macho man in the street, and hell tell you the MX is a hairdressers car; the kind of car youd buy your wife.

The chances are, of course, theyve never driven one because anyone who has taken the opportunity is smitten in less than five minutes.

QFT. I love the damn thing, even after spending ten minutes working out how to open the petrol cap.

Got all my service parts ordered and bits to tidy it up:

1 x Camshaft Timing Belt Kit () = £49.95
Model (SI25) 1.6 1989>2000
1 x Power Steering/Air Conditioning Belt (48361) = £5.95
1 x Oil Filter, Genuine Mazda (SI474) = £3.95
1 x Fuel Filter, Mk1, Genuine Mazda (FIG7034) = £10.34
1 x NGK ZFR6F11 Long Reach Sparkplug Set (SI678) = £11.80
1 x Renovo Plastic Window Polish (RNPWP003) = £4.99
1 x 1.6 Enthusiasts Workshop Manual (V125) = £25.00
1 x Original Side Repeater Lamp (SI2199) = £23.97
1 x Mk1 Original Rear Light Cluster () = £47.04
Please Select (SI2063) Left Hand
1 x K&N Replacement Filter Panel Mk1 (33-2034) = £35.50
1 x Camshaft Oil Seal (SI111) = £6.35
------------------------------------------------------
Total Goods: £224.84
 (Delivery Charge): £8.95
Total includes UK VAT of: £31.09
Total: £233.79

Hopefully these will arrive in time to give to the garage to deal with along with my alternator, so my labour will go down and it will save some money on labour. Ill change the air filter myself, I think even I can handle that

Maybe £400/£500 all in for the parts and work? Im still happy with that to have it fully serviced and getting back to as new. Still a total bargain on top of £950 for it! I still need new leads, but they dont have decent ones in at the moment, no point replacing the Mazdaspeed leads just yet... I reckon it will glide through the MOT next month.

Who said Mazda spares were expensive? Those are normal prices short of the plugs. I usually get NGKs for $3/per stateside, but whos to quibble for a kebabsworth.

Did you ask the garage if you could bring in parts for them to install? Over here thats rather unusual and sometimes seen as downright rude.

Surprised youre doing the cam belt so early. I thought it was recommended at 100K for most Mazdas of the era. Its about mileage, not age (usually). Labor shouldnt be too much to replace, though, as the MX5 engine bay is refreshingly simple.
