Planning Routes... AutoRoute?!

Got hold of autoroute this evening and have been having a play around with it, it works... alright but speeds and stuff just dont play right :)

http://www.m3-computers.com/bike/routes/CF83%202QP%20to%20Pembrey%20Forrest%20Country%20Park.htm

is an example route Ive made up. Going to go for a full century some point in the future, tempted to attempt it with a mate sometime next summer with parents or other mates as backup :) so if we decide that were dead and just cant carry on we can call on them and they can come get us :D

I was trying to find a nice 20mile circuit and 30mile circuit to do on a weekend. Stuff thatll take 2 or 3 hours to complete that after riding from work back... I can go out and do some more riding, but autoroute in my area loves to just hop on the most crowded dangerous roads and bloody steep hills :D lol.

Anyone know if its possible to buy an autoroute map with the national cycle routes, the heritage trails and forestry commission routes labelled on it? I think itd be a big seller if it was possible! :)

Righty... well its been decided :D

I shall be doing shuttle runs back and forth to cardiff I thinks on weekends and my days off to get the distance and hills in :)

Then sometime before the end of this year Ill go for a Cardiff - Brecon (25mile then turn around and cycle home).

Then go for a full Cardiff - Brecon 54miles there, 54 miles back.

Then enter into some AUDAX events in the UK :) Quite a few 200km and 400km events around me according to the AUDAX UK website calendar.
Hopefully with my fitness up from training to do that, I can then contemplate doing a full 200mile there and back on that route above.

Taaaa daaa!!! my aims for zee year! :) Ride a 200km Audax event :) next year do my double century and raise some money for charity (british heart foundation sounds like a good one to me) May get a friend or two involved in it to :)

you can probably get some form of cycling overlay in Google Earth, have a look on the keyhole BBS (theres a link within google earth, on the help menu)

never tried though, myself

ah its not an issue really mate, I have autoroute and other mapping thing, havent looked at the other one yet but will have a potter about with it.

Yea... was going to say to you, with your fancy bike... thought about doing an AUDAX event? (aka... long distance riding).

They are really open to anyone, any bike can ride in one :) they cost like £3 or £4 to enter, go from distances of 50km to 600km to 1200km for the paris-brest-paris or the london-edinburgh-london (thats 1600km tho).

And you get medals for just "getting through it" :)

Do different combinations of races over a time period (say 2x200km and 2x600km races) and you get different awards too :)

Looks really interesting, theres a 75km and a 200km coming up soon in my area, and they have a few 100km races chucked in too :)

200km is where actual events count towards your "randoneer"yness :) but the 50km and 100km brevets are still awarded medals, they are seen as training rides for the larger events.

Its not a race, theres placements but everyone who completes the course gets the awards :) so theres no gold silver bronze thing.

It looks really really interesting! :) Im determined to get into it :D but yea... with your fancy ribble (aint it?!) I bet youd look the part too! :D

lol :D well have a google for Audax UK.

Their website is pants for navigation until you figure it out took me about 30minutes of confusion before I got any meaningful info from it. Check out the FAQ first off... then have a wander around it :)
