Right, so it was MOT day today and i took it in expecting to fail on worn discs because i was given an advisory on them 12 months ago.......
picked up the car and it passed with flying colours, no advisory and no mention of worn discs, and this was at the same place that did it 12 months ago
i think they were just trying to fleece me last time as i had an advisory on tyres as well and they thought they could get discs and tyres out of me....but i just went somewhere else for the tyres instead and did nothing about the discs
chalk 1 up for consistency

english MOT mate.
-
does smell a little fishy doesnt it, but ive not felt anything worrying with the brakes, but to be on the safe side im gonna shell out for a full service and discs+pads
-
get discs and pads here
http://www.brakeparts.co.uk/
and do them yourself. piss easy

It would be hilarious to watch the Norn Irn MOT get introduced on the mainland :)
-
Id say a good 60% of cars over 7 years old would fail that pass there.

Good website there mark, nice and cheap! u know any others that are good for looking at prices on web? as opposed to "Please phone us" websites?
-
for what sort of stuff ?
-
normal service stuff really, not interested in anything modified or any major parts really just run of the mill filters, glow plugs etc stuff like that
-
the usuals are ok - eurocarparts and germanswedishfrench - there is also a place called pugspares that are quite cheap
-
i get all my stuff from euro car parts, they allways seem to have !everything! in stock, ive started asking for really daft things to catch them out but havent managed it yet. Good prices too.

Local independent dealers of car parts can be good priced some times. Theres a place Knighty introduced me to called npa Ltd and they do all sorts. Basically they sell things like Bosal back boxes for my car, where its not exact pug, but it still does the same job and like half the price.
Literally, £60+ at pug for a back box for my car, about £30 for the part at NPA.
But of course you need to know what you want :)
Check out the motor factors on yell.com or car spares and see what comes up :)

you should try to get to know the local places... they can be a big help :-)
NPA used to be called autella, and used to be next door to me at work... so know them really well... which is handy when you phone them up for a filter/some break pads etc.. theres 5 different ones it could be and you dont know which... theyll just send you all 5 and you can pay when you take the 4 left over ones back a week later ;)
