Go J Defoe !

I though Harry was crazy selling Benjani, but buying Defoa was a class move, hes now on 4 and we beat AV our nearest rivals, we are on 47 points AV are on 49, so 3 for a win will put us in 6th  :nana:

Jermain Defoe capped a dream week for FA Cup semi-finalists Portsmouth with a brace to keep alive their hopes of a top-six finish.

Defoe took his tally since a £7.5million move from Tottenham Hotspur in January to five goals in as many matches with a quick-fire double inside the opening nine minutes.

It will be short lived... believe me.
Portsmoth are well & truely punching above their weight. Where was benjani last season? a big waste of f**king space.

Defoe is well & truelly found out against the big clubs. ATM hes being a fox in the box, but When mangers like :-
Errikson, Jol, McClaren, Ramos & Capello dont look twice...... you gotta look further than ability.

For me, Defoe has never been mustard. Hes 1 dimensional outside the box.
inside the box for pompey hes showing as a rare gem... but the wheels wikll soon fall off.

Punching above our weight?  They say weve done that for two seasons running, so I wouldnt be so quick to write us off.

Benjani a waste of space last season?  He didnt score many goals, granted, but his work rate was second to none.  I was skeptical when Arry replaced Benji with Defoe, but so far hes done good - Scored his first goal for pompey against a small, easy to beat club - oh wait, no that was Chealsea

Time will tell, but Arry is no fool - he has proven that consistently.

Every player has to earn caps, even David Beckham started on one.

no they dont. Sven was given them out like sweets.
Even our 5th choice centreback got one - Anthony Gardner.

Then theres Darius Vassell now at Man City. Won plenty of caps at Villa & scored a lot more goals for england than Defoe has.

What about that other bum portsmouth have. the one from preston. he got an england cap - oh & an england goal.

league and FA cup Defoe is on  6, not a bad record.

Sick Defoe delivers the goods

Jermain Defoe was Pompeys hero against Aston villa

Harry Redknapp hailed stricken Jermain Defoe after the striker climbed off his sick bed to star for Pompey.
The England man was laid low by a virus on Friday, forcing him out of training.

Yet Defoe shrugged off the illness on Saturday morning to declare himself fit to take on Aston Villa.

The result was the classy opener against Pompeys European rivals, taking his tally to six in six games.

And his boss was quick to pay tribute to the determination of the striker who just cant stop scoring.

Redknapp said: The own goal was fortunate but the first one was a great goal, a marvellous g
oal.

It was a great ball and then a great finish from Jermain.

Hes a natural goalscorer. Six goals hes got now, its an amazing start for him.

Hes got that knack, hes always had it since he was 15 when I signed him.

He was actually doubtful for the game. He had a virus, he couldnt train on the Friday.

Jermain really felt rough. He was very ill apparently and felt really drained.

The doc got him to come down on the Friday night and spent a bit of time with him.

Hes so desperate to play the doc patched him up.

He felt better when he came in on Saturday morning so we played him and Im pleased we did.

I thought our front two were terrific, they gave Villa problems really.

Jermain scored a great goal and I thought Milan worked his socks off for us.

He never stopped making runs up the channel, got behind them and was always a threat.

He cant play tomorrow because of a stupid rule.

Quote
Defoes absence is down to a new Premier League rule brought in during the summer.

It forbids players whose loan deals are later made permanent from playing against their former club, a change instigated by last seasons Tim Howard controversy.

On that occasion, the goalkeeper was not allowed to play for Everton against former club Manchester United following a gentlemans agreement upon his transfer.

That stupid rule must mean that Benjani cant play against us in a few weeks time !!
