New car!
on: November 13, 2011, 11:23:26 AM
Well bit heart broken - my Avensis GLS failed the MOT with some bits that whilst not OTT to fix, could have had various causes and figuring it out was likely to get costly. I only paid £700 for it, its 13 years old with 165K on the clock so wasn't worth it.

Needed something ASAP and had to be cheap - picked up a '99 Mondeo 2.0 Zetec for £800. 12 months MOT, 6 months tax, ,93K, tidy motor:

Its not as nice to drive as the Toyota - that was the best car I've ever owned (still gutted!) - but its nice enough and pretty damn quick too. Had to reprogram the remote locking this morning to get it working but was easy enough with a nice interwebz guide!

All in all it'll do me through winter :)

The Mondeo 2l drinks a fair bit of fuel around the town so i hope you bought it for long distance :P

Apart from that it looks rather tidy! :)

Looks a decent car but I dont get your logic.

Get rid of a good car that needed a couple of £100 of work and would have probably given you a couple more years trouble free motoring and buy a car for £800 that is pretty much the same age and alot more likey to give you problems than the toyota.

Anyway thats just the way I look at cars. Hopefully the Mundano is good one for you.

I thought Mondeos of that age were very reliable generally? Looks tidy indeed though, good purchase I reckon!

Yeah my commute is rural and/or motorway so MPG is ok. I get mileage for out the office work anyway :)

Multiple reasons for my decision. If we were looking at a couple of hundred ££'s I'd have kept the Toyota, but the garage were talking £400/£500 before labour. Add to that the fact it needs £150 of new tax as well and I'd have been spending about £700 on it and its just not worth it for a car thats done that many miles - even the garage didn't think it was worth it. I'm not convinced it'll give me more issues TBH - I love the Toyota but parts are not cheap and I have had to buy quite a few for it. Time will tell I guess.

I don't mind if people think its a boring car - its just a tool to get me from A-B (although its got more poke than the Toyota so its more fun in that respect). It'll pay for itself in mileage claims anyway :)

I had a MK1 1.8 and a MK3 2.0 i skipped the MK2 but i would assume they all used the same engine, being the king of the rep cars you know your going to get your moneys worth out of it.

Given the same choice i would have made the same decision.
