Title: New Weekend Car Time!
Post by: adam2975 on May 27, 2008, 23:05:49 PM
Ok so the Brabus Roadster just cost me £680 quid for a new actuator and clutch, i refuse to buy another merc as long as i live as they are a bunch of wankers.

15 days out of my years warranty, under 3 years old and only 15,300 miles on the clock and the german gits wouldnt stump up.

Im looking for a new used car for around £10k, something like a Honda S2000, doesnt have to be practical but i dont want to go above 2.5 ltr really due to the stupid fuel prices.

Any suggestions? oh a boxster is out as the gf hates em.

Cheers.

Oh thats a thought, i am really looking for another Roadster style or coupe style car.

Ill look into the running cost of an evo though as ive always discounted them due to the service intervals, mind you the smart needs doing every 7k miles.

Lotus Elise or vauxhall vx220 ?

Ive looked into an Elise but it will have to be the VX220 as they are slightly cheaper, or should i say that i can get a better one cheaper.

So far the list is looking good, in no particular order.

1. BMW Z4
2. EVO
3. VX220
4. Boxster

Still debating the Boxster :p

Z4 any day of the week.
VX220 - nice but its a Vauxhall.
Evo - great cars but Id wouldnt wanna pay to run one.
Boxster - nah.

Youd be sailing close to the wind at 10k for a reliable evo - and running costs are sky high

The brothers VII only has a few mods and it gets 5-12mpg. 17 would be a high. He does all the work himself obviously, but in 1 and a bit years its stood him about £1900 in parts - pads, clutch (On his 3rd), discs, etc etc - but he does hammer it.

Yah, lemme rephrase. - nice but its got a vauxhall badge. Fill in the blanks;

You: I drive a bad little convertible beemer
Fit bird at pub: ...........

You: I drive a Porsche
Fit bird at pub: ...........

You: I drive a Vauxhall blah blag its a blah...
Fit bird leaving pub: ...........

Is all Im saying. I know its shallow but really for £10k you want them queuing up for the passenger seat.

Hes right. Any car where you have to explain why its good to the average person isnt going to get people patting you on the back or ladies wanting to suck your manwand.

maybe - on the other hand they look sh*t hot and most fit birds wouldnt know one brand to another anyway. Plus its a great car - one of my ex work mates has one (actually - she IS a fit bird lol!)

I take your point guys but i am swaying towards the VX220 tbh, anyway my dashing good looks and sharp wit have the girls falling over themselves to get a piece of me :heehaw:

On the newer version of the VX220, how many Vauxhall badges are there anyway? I seem to remember Top Gear being pleased there was nothing to give away the true nature of the manufacturer.

"I have a little two seater sports car" is probably enough to spread a few legs anyway.

I saw a recent VX220 yesterday with no big Vauxhall badge besmirching the front and have to admit I inspected it closely looking for evidence of filing...  :mutley:

Id go for a vx220 if it was ONLY a weekend car - the one me and my mate bought to sell on was ok - parts were stupid money (Body panels etc) and build was a bit sh*te, but it went OK

Pretty good on fuel.

Its not just the pub thing, k, word association:

Vauxhall: Novas, boy-racers, Diesel Astras spewing smoke, rep-mobiles, etc
BMW: ...............
Porsche: .................

Title: Re:New Weekend Car Time!

Yep, its hopefully the turbo im looking for.

Ill debadge it and remove the V from the front grille, they look 10 times better that way i think.

if its going to be a weekend car only youd be stupid not to consider an RX-7 TT - or a Skyline

The R32 is probably the best handling car *ever*, the R33 looks a bit better but not as sharp. R34 is still too dear

For a pure weekend car that’s a bit different and very interesting look out for a Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16v.
Not sure 10k would buy you a really good example, as I give up trying a few years ago as I’m to lazy to work hard enough to afford and run one lol

Not the best looking, but the best handling and “point to point” car from the 80’s or 90’s and beat a Cossie convincingly  (not sure about the 00 as I don’t follow cars as I once did), but show it a bendy road and it battered supercars of that period by a large margin.

Myself and anybody else who knows anything about cars from that period would smile and nod at you at a junction for sure :D

Suppose it depends what you’re looking for a really good and interesting car or a good looking car to pose in???

Post by: Mark on May 31, 2008, 02:00:33 AM
best handling - i think many a skyline r32 or r33 owner would contest that!
Title: Re:New Weekend Car Time!
Post by: Shaun on May 31, 2008, 02:18:26 AM
A standard Lancia was better than the standard r32 of the time… sure if you threw a lot of money at the Skyline you would end up with a better car.

But the Lancia is a lot rarer and Italian, not a ricer…. as I said in my last post depends what your looking for :)

Post by: adam2975 on May 31, 2008, 09:35:58 AM
I must admit i have glanced at Lancia Deltas in the past but i dont want one enough to buy a left hooker, RHD models are rarer than rocking horse sh*te.

Ive grown out of posing tbh but i still like to own a car that isnt the main stream choice, why buy something everybody seems to have (scooby anybody), note i am not knocking the car and dont wish to cause offence to any owners but they arent my cup of tea.

Skylines were on the list at one time but ive discounted them as being too big.

I am looking for an out and out weekend ride though as i have a Seat Leon i use for work everyday hence not having to worry about practicallity.

Aerial Atom? Maybe a bit over budget.
