BBC Gets F1 Back
on: March 20, 2008, 12:41:37 PM
Quite supprised by this becuase I think ITV has been a really fine job of the F1 Coverage
No more adverts is cool But I hope the standards ITV has set continue or better at the bbc becuase as well as money it was one of the reasons they lost it in the first place as people were tuning off.

Ecclestone seems to have been the driving force behind the switch and its a Five year deal to boot

"But with all the other things they are loaded up with - and who knows they will get some more stuff - maybe it will be a bit more difficult to spend as much time on us.

"I think the BBC will do that."

Quote
We were delighted when Bernie Ecclestone approached us about the return of F1 to the BBC.

Interesting though seems odd
ITV

decided to exit F1 at the end of this season
but doing so well and 3 years into a 5 year deal, strange.
Wonder if BBC will get Steve Rider back or any of the other team from ITV? OR who would be the new presenters?

Quite shocked no one would have seen this happening

ITV coverage was sh*t. Hated the commentary team (they got rid of Tony Jardine who was the only one I liked), missed all the good action watching adverts for tampons and had an hours pre race of bits where we got to watch David Coulthard riding a motorbike round Monaco and similar rubbish.

Love to see Murray doing the odd race again and possibly Damon Hill contributing.I imagine theyll try and bring Martin Brundle over as everyone else but me seems to love him.

But regardless of any of this- BRING ON THE CHAIN!! :ptu:

Murray may get back but I liked Martin Brundle but I have to totally disagree about the coverage from the qualifiying to race day ITV has had better presentation of the data and graphics then the beeb ever did and what they have done best by a mile is explain F1 get behind the teams more and more behind the scenes looks, more in depth looks at the cars and more.
I loved the from driver to car series Martin did with the cool graphics on the air, inner workings of the body and car etc - was brilliant, the beeb never even got close to that
I hope they have learnt their lesson and taking notes of what ITV has been doing

Problem with murray is he is old and he did ramble so do the BBC want to run the risk of being to old fashioned with the F1 messing it up as a result?
Need something and someone like suzi perry in moto gp, an actual fan knows her stuff but nice to look at

Or the top gear team, lol

Meh fair enough I know a lot of people liked it but personally I thought they babbled on with a lot of sh*t. All personal preference though at the end of the day so Ill hope that they do it totally different to ITV.

Murray couldnt come back full time but come on itd be cool to have him doing some stuff for the local GPs at least... As for potential new commentators what about someone like Perry McCarthy or Johnny Herbert as a number 2?

Just realised...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=gfoLMa8bET4&fmt=18

Or a modern day version of it (Damon Hill?)

ITV:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Mp8ZMxy7W24&fmt=18
OR old itv?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=EBy6YNTqx4k&fmt=18

Or what Japan use?
T-Square which I think would be cool

Can anyone find a revamped version done by someone of the beeb theme?

The original version (The Chain by Fleetwood Mac bass riff) is the best in my opinion. It just shouts "F1" to me. Whenever I hear it I also find myself compelled to say "but daaaaad, its boooorrring".   -)

ITV ones all been good but when you think of F1 you do think of the beeb them still although lift me up by Moby being used has been very popular But the BBC will certanly use their original but I just Hope they beef it up to an ITV funk/other rock music link style which would be really cool.
I just hope now they have it they go to town on the whole show

Best thing is no adverts, how can you have live sport with adverts

ITV are just absolutely terrible at sport.

The champions league commentary team are simply the most annoying.  Its a combination of being completely biased to one individual, team or country.  The knack of stating the obvious and commentating for the blind.  Its why I dont watch much sport on ITV.

The F1 presenting team is the only half decent one to the degree that I dont find them annoying.

So long as F1 is free I dont really care where it goes.  The channel still has no control over the live footage.

The CL is apparently why ITV chose to exit F1.  F1 doesnt draw viewers like the CL does.  I read that advertisers were very concerned about BBC winning the CL.

And no, you stopped watching F1 because it was as dull as dish water.

It is interesting that ITV dropped it despite of Hamilton fever, youd think the resurgence in popularity would ensure it staying on a commercial station.  However, due to the fact that F1 is a global sport and timing of the races is all over the place, the BBC would be a more stable place to have F1.  Quite why ITV insisted on showing F1 qualifying for the US/Canadian races on ITV4 was beyond me.  It has the bandwidth of a youtube video.
