Sorry for poor pics, were on my camera phone when out working yesterday.

Its a 1994 Mitsubishi Delica L400 2.8 Intercooler Turbo Exceed Spacegear.  Those Japs like their long names!
Showing 88k on the clock, but was converted from KM at 60k.
Smoking like a 14y/o chav at the moment though, need to either blank or clean the EGR, and I think my wastegate is stuck.

smoking under what conditions? Smoking could be too much fuel, or turbo oil seals gone - but thats a pessimistic view.

When you floor it, its like a james bond movie.
Motorways, uphills, or just in traffic, get a bit excited with the throttle and its big clouds of black, then white smoke, followed by a PSSSSSCCCCCCCCCTTTTTTTT
from under the bonnet, making me think wastegate.

I think my EGR valve has something to do with it partially, and Im going to change the fuel filter, as this apparently can cure a whole load of running ailments.
Its just a case of removing the intercooler, both the batteries and then climbing inside the bay and remove the damn thing.

My rover was like that, the wastegate was indeed stuck open - the actuator linkage had come apart!

One circlip later and a bit of jiggery pokery, all was well - and the difference was spot on.

Also check for split intercooler hoses, its plainly losing boost somewhere.

Is it idling ok ?

white smoke is unburned fuel, black is too much or oil burning.

A boost leak *may* cause this

Its idling fine, Ive got a sneaking suspicion that it needs its injector seals doing, but its working atm.

Just found out its got the wrong air filter in too, so need to change that on payday.  The filter kits are about £30 from Milners for air, fuel and some other filter.

Wastegate jamming is common, as is injector seals.  Fuel filter has probably never been changed as the Japs never do them and they are such a bugger to get to that normally doesnt get done in servicing either.

Anyway, getting High teens round town and low 20s on a run :)

Did you drive through that big puddle?! Was it very deep?

Nah, that was a little puddle.

I drove down Boat Lane in Methley, West Yorkshire and the water came up above the wheels.

Turns out when I got to the borehole I wanted to measure, wound down the window and the borehole was under water anyway. :D
