Title: Price Guide Please ? I am looking to sell my 1999 Marin Trail Bike
Post by: Mardoni on July 04, 2006, 21:03:21 PM
I know its not a top of the range or anything and yes it is a few years old now but I was wondering what peeps thought I might get for it ?

Its in V. good condidition. I had it serviced at the end of last summer and it has sat in the storage cupboard since :/ I have become too lazy to go out riding and I work only a short walk from home !

Heres a pic of the bike:
I am sure I have some better pictures somewhere and I will try and dig them out, in the mean time any advice on value would be great :)

Marin has and had several models under the Trail umbrella. Which one is it or what are the components?

I mean it was worth 600ish when it was new and the gear on it has been superseeded by some margin, there are alot of cheap FS bikes out there - the RST forks etc. arent the best forks you can get and i also imagine it could do with the shocks being serviced and the whole machine being tuned up and serviced...

i could be wrong though, so ask around.

What youre saying makes a lot of sense and sounds about right. Its just hard to accept that a bike can depreciate that much ;)

id keep it and get it serviced, itll be a cracking trail bike, designed my Mike (?) Whyte - former F1 designer, they were the seminal full suspension bikes of their time... the B17 was an AWESOME piece of kit...

Its scary how much they go.

Ive got a Kona in the garage, if it was new someone would be paying £1400ish.  If I sold it, Id be lucky to get £600

Its best to buy your bike second hand and let someone else take the after sales pice plummet. 17.5% of the new price is VAT dont forget.

TBH I think bikes should be zero rated for VAT.

True but then the second hand price of any item is related to its new price so you cant necessarily just write off the 17.5%
