Meh, you just got it cuz it had "carbon" in the name.

I source jerseys for $20 or less during the winter sales. Its a freekin jersey. Long as it fits and has three pockets and no stupid wannabe team logos, Im happy. Often I just use wicking sports ts as Ive got the Camelbak on.

You can source 4 pairs of good 8 panel shorts for the same price as the Cannondales. Often the expensive shorts these days have too much padding and cause numbness or thigh chafing.

My last pair is a set of high compression Novara shorts on sale for approx 18gbp.

Just look for heavy lycra, good leg grippers, and a waistband that doesnt roll over. Chamois is personal, but less is more as padding serves no purpose other than to get compressed and give you a vauge saddle feel.

Durability? Well, my favorite pair of shorts, some professional level Performance Hydroflos lasted for 4 years of aggregated riding. Got them on sale for $25. Now theyre $75.

I see no reason to throw a bunch of money at clothing when I know what fits and works--and it aint the luxe stuff.

Or if you are *really* cheap, chop off some old jeans at the knees...

And have no skin left on your testicles after fifty miles. But wait...as you finish your ride, somebody throws a liter of isopropyl alcohol at yer crotch. BURNNNN!

With the exception of my very expensive GORE softshell (which was a gift) all my cycling stuff is relatively cheap.  I got a Gill oxygen jersey from CRC for £23ish, and Ill probably go pick up some cheapy shorts from the LBS up the road.

Anyway, Im off to get ready for my ride.  Going with my usual cycling buddy for our 18 miler, ending at midday in the 27deg heat a a pub in a local village.  All my mates have finished exams now, so were hoping we might be able to construct a peloton for the way home :D

I did it with some old, extremely soft, jeans when the knees went, although they were only cheap cause the shop was closing down. Worked well enough. TBH I have seen loads of runners getting thigh problems because they were wearing synthetic shorts too.

If you use hard denim then you get what you ask for  .

After riding 70+miles in this one week... Ive come to realise, SEAMS F***ING HURT!.

I need boxers. I NEEEEEEED Boxers. I normally wear pants/briefs as well theyre comfy, not so comfy for riding a bike with. Rode one day with some old fashioned Y-front semi-boxer things that I had thinking theyd improve the ride, no no no no... bad idea. like sawing through your thigh with a belt of sandpaper.

Trousers also hurt, where as ideally my craghoppers are great :) double stitches seams to avoid splittage, tough durable double panel design on the knees and arse to stop wearthrough, dry in seconds even when completely drenched (as was demonstrated by me riding through a standpipe burst.. bugger me that water comes out with a bit of force!), and has some wierd solar protection thing to stop my skin burning when faced with temps rivalling a nuclear reactor.... they are crap for riding in. Because of all the double panelling, means there are more seams in random places. Sit on one... or get one crumpled under your leg, youll soon feel it.

Ooooffftt... need some fat man shorts of somekind that allow me to go around in them without looking a complete twat (i.e. cycling shorts = looking like an idiot).

guess again... you need some Lycra

sans underwear as they say....

I used to use these and have some fairly lightweight / technical kinda shorts over the top, but I have upgraded now to proper look-like-an-idiot ones and they are superior, but the inners arent half bad as you still get the benefits from a close fitting, seamless kinda thing...  give them a go mate!!

snellgrove, darling, are you on f*cking glue???

SEVENTY NOTES ON SHORTS?!

i bought some of these for 40 quid:

they have lycra shorts on the inside which can be removed so youre left with standard baggy shorts... the best pair of shorts ive ever used - they look casual enough that you can walk round town and uni without the odd looks you get when in lycra shorts, but still get the benefit of lycra for support. Also these shorts are a little longer, so if you come off at high speed (on or off road) your pins are protected.

70 quid is ALOT of money. Id spend that on a skid lid, but not on SHORTS! ;) :) i hope you have adequate safety gear after all this!

Alot which is why i got the best possible shorts, which still cost over 50% less than snellgroves...
I (more than anyone else on here, probably) am best qualified to talk about nad-related problems, so trust me i know what im talking about; as long as the shorts are well fiting and have good support - theres no need to spend excessive amounts of money.

EDIT: THAT SAID IT IS SNELLS MONEY, SO GOOD LUCK TO HIM... :)

Beware, or Ill post a pic of my lycrad rump. Its robust enough to hang proudly in a butchers shop, and powerful enough to use as a pickle jar opener. The men would faint and the women would wax lyrical about it. :D

MADRID (Reuters) - Hundreds of nude cyclists pedaled around Spanish cities on Saturday to protest against car-clogged streets and demand greater respect for pollution-free transport.

With slogans like "one car less" and "bio methanol" painted on their backs, the naked cyclists staged Spains third annual Ciclonudista or "Nudecycle" in Madrid, Barcelona and Pamplona.

The protest was part of world-wide naked bike riding events on Saturday across Europe, North America and South America.

"We feel naked when up against traffic because people dont see the bicycle as just another means of transport," said Madrid cyclist Ramon Linaza, wearing only a cycle helmet and shoes.

Towing cardboard cars with gaping jaws, protesters said the rapid rise of automobile ownership in Spain was turning city streets into ever more hostile and dangerous cycling territory.

Organizers said the bicycle was a healthy and efficient form of urban transport that is largely ignored by Spanish drivers and city planners.

Central Madrid has few bike paths and cyclists are a rarity on its streets. Barcelona has the most bike paths of any Spanish city, according to cycling activists.

Per capita car ownership has rocketed in Spain after a decade of strong economic growth.

Stupid hippies like them and the Critical Mass assholes do more to ruin the reputation of cyclists than anybody else.
