Scoobs gone - new cars here..!
on: July 11, 2008, 18:20:05 PM
Sold the scoob earlier, this week.

Lots of reasons but ultimately wanted something less extreme, more refined and easier/cheaper to run.

Obviously have sacrificed a lot of performance but tbh I never got to use anywhere near its potential on the road..

So the new Bartopmobile is...

A Ford Focus !!  8-) well, Ford Focus ST 500 actually - Special edition run of the last of the old shape.

First impressions - nice interior, big step up from the scoob. Performance, no slouch but not in the same league as the Scoob but I knew that. Still, fast enough and really easy to drive, controls feel light but not too bad, will miss the quick shift from the Sti though.

Some nice toys to play with - voice control of the telephone, stereo, aircon etc is a laugh but probably not something I would use much. Heated seats, park assist and dual zone aircon though will be nice..

Overall much more refined, quiet, easy to drive and easier to live with, cheaper to run and fast enough for the sort of driving I do day to day so all in all am happy so far !

Not mine but to show whats possible with just a bit of TLC ;)

Does the ST500 have any significance to performance? Cos my dads work used to have a Ford Sierra RS500, which, appropriately, had stupid amounts of power. On wet ground you could put a brick on the pedal, step out and push the car sideways, cos the wheels just spun and got absolutely no purchase.

No, fraid not - was a limited edition run of 500 cars of the old shape but basically an ST3 with a load of goodies, red leather and the black livery with silver stripes..

Very nice, not quite sure about the stripes but big fan generally.

Prefer that to the dodgy new orange STs.

Indeed, I saw one of those in Tadley last weekend, disgusting colour that spoils the car for me. In black it would be a beauty.

Is it true that certain Skylines are banned in the states?

You could get a non v-spec GT-R for that money.

A V-Spec would cost you a bit more, but then theyre tricked out R34s

I have to wait FIFTEEN WEEKS on my R32 GT-R V-Spec II arriving (I chose R32 as they are the real skyline - lightweight, and focussed - the R34 looks better, is newer and is probably better day to day, but I like the R32 better)
