My car is due for a service as its a 2008 (Ive only just got it to the mileage for its first service) I have to get a garage to do it for the warranty etc, Ive never had a car I needed take to a garage before, how much money am I looking at to get it done properly? And would the dealer be a better option?
Cheers

depends on the car.. if its a luxury car, then dealer stamps for servicing adds to the resale value.
if its a dime a dozen car, then take it somwhere thats highly recommended by more than 1 person.
-
Its a suzuki swift
-
As its your first service tbh you are best off taking it to the Dealer for the stamp and peace of mind Id say, Lindsey.
-
Thats what I thought but my dad was telling me otherwise and now Im confusied lol
-
Are the terms of the warrenty specific as to where it has to be serviced? If not, as Egg says then any recommended garage will do. If you are trying to retain the value, then dealer is the way forward.
-
If its a multi-year warranty and new car then take it to the dealers and pay the price.
-
The warranty is for 3 years and as far as I know there are no t&cs to say it has to be done with the dealer
-
If anything did come up under warranty/service the dealers would want you to have it fixed through them anyway, so surely it makes sense just to go to them?

Service book stamps make no difference, except to idiots that read used car guides, and think their car will get what it says its worth on parkers.

To you and me, yes, but idiots are ten a penny out there, and need to be catered for...

Depends, Something real luxury or high performance will hold more value if its been done at the dealers. Would you buy a Bentley or 911 if it had been done at "Backstreet Motors" for its entire life, or would you want to see its been looked after by the dealer from new?
-
If I thought that a dealer had been near either, I wouldnt buy it.
Dealers do the shoddiest work - bar none - and charge the highest prices.

We dont all come from your background of rebuilding your whole engine every few weeks though. For many people the first port of call is the dealersship if they dont know a reputable garage - reputable garages are hard enough to find.

Dealers also cannot say that your warranty is void by taking it to a proper garage.

I admire you a little for that, most people that I know men and women wont get under the bonnet to actually do anything, maybe they might swap a light bulb around however.

When I get a car now, I cant and wont buy new ones, so an old one I buy a file for all the receipts I gather during the ownership of the car. I can put things in chronological order and then it might help in the sale of the car. It gives an extra bargaining chip and I dont loose all the little bits of paper.
