Title: Short term car insurance?
Post by: addictweb on February 20, 2012, 13:19:42 PM
Is there any way I can get insurance on a friends car for a weekend? I dont currently hold any insurance policies.

I'm considering buying it and have been offered the chance to drive it for the weekend before making a decision, only sticking point is that i'll need insurance.

£100 for 2 days, seems a lot.

That sounds very excessive, what's the car? I've used dayinsure previously and its only been £10-20 a day.

Aviva or Norwich Union do a similar service I believe, its worth a try although you might end up with similar quotes.

Lexus IS 200 SE, possibly more because I'm in London, i'll look into some other companies.

I've used day insure before, the insurers for some bizarre reason wouldn't cover me to drive in Europe for three days.

Did it via day insure for I think it was £40 at the time.  No idea why it's that expensive.

Check what the excess is though.

I regularly borrow my FiL's motorbike on day cover and the excess is ~£1500

Was gonna say, when I've gone on holidays with friends and my car I just phone my insurance up and it costs < £20. It ended up costing less once to have a friend on my insurance for 6 months till renewal, than it would for the week!
