Hey Norphy how much is your Golf worth now would you say as my brother (primus_sucks) is looking for a mark 3/4 tho im still doubting the insurance for him for a 17 year old :D

Post by: Norphy on March 19, 2006, 03:25:05 AM
That thing? According to Parkers, about £1500 for a private sale. I might be able to get more considering its got full electrics and perfect bodywork

BTW it cost me > £1400 to insure it when I got my licence. And that was at 22. Id dread to think how much it would cost at 17. To make it even halfway affordable hed have to get one with a tiny engine and that would be a bad idea in a Golf. Tell him to get a Polo instead :)

It is now got some nicer looking alloys than these

Current nail:

^^^ Complete with cracked back light and mirrors that need repainting lol. Only a cheapie, needs some 195/45s as the truck tyres dont really help matters.

Its just a 1400 8v, cat back scorpion imola exhaust, k&n induction kit, lowered 40mm on GMax springs, tints etc. I dont particularly like it lol so I will get something nice in october when insurance is nice and cheeeaapp :)

I dont think I have any pics of me MTB but its not quite as classy as your bikes anyway, just an old 99 Trek 830 with a few adjustments over time, hardly use it now heh.

Latest pic of the Forester - now lowered on Forester Sti struts and springs and a bigger scoop fitted...

Getting the bits together now for the engine upgrade, got the exhaust, bigger intercooler, fuel pump. Just need the turbo and filter and enough cash together to get it all fitted and remapped and 330/330 here I come :D

lol mad car bartop :) and the corsa is a "flair" haha so stupid coloured interior and some SRi bits like spoiler and steering wheel, its on 195/45s now and looks sooo much better, but not low enough so Im considering going -60mm.

Tempted go 2.0 16v but the hassle involved, I might aswell buy a quick car in the first place as this things getting old now and I like the idea of something modern with creature comforts :p

^^ Ill do another, and a couple more as your interested ;)

gunna steam clean the alloys at work anyway, so Ill do the engine and get it done then ;)

apparently... Ive read my turbo will only be running at about 3psi as its the non-sport model*  and Ive got a mate with the proper gauges etc.. so Im going to up it a bit soon :)

*apparently they only made one model at first, but old people were loosing the back end with the kick of the turbo so they split and made 2, the sport and the non sport :o

tho you can get aftermarket clear ones pretty cheap iirc ;)

the only problem with the car is, those are alloys/tyres from a different model (tho there my fav. bit tbh) and there a but widter than the normal ones, so if you go round a corner fast on close to full lock with a few fasangers in, the tyre will rub on the inside of the wheel arch and make a noise..... tho theres plastic protectors in there, and there not getting worn down, so its fine by me, the spot on road holding and handerling is worth it :)

Happy with it to be honest, its sooo cheap to run compared to the last one. I think Ive only filled it up 3 times since I bought it a few months ago

2 wheels:

I have a mountain bike in the garage, but Ive pretty much lost interest in getting muddy on 2 wheels since the above showed up. prefer going quickly  found a racing bike far more addictive than the MTB ever was.

Its a 2l pinto and the fire extinguisher is to catch any oil that spits out of the rocker cover (without it Oil splashes onto the exhust manifold and bellows smoke everywhere)

cool, why dont you just get a filler cap? also why such a heavy engine in such a light car? its screaming out for a k-series tbh.

your talking complete and uter crap, being a rover fanboy aside the k-series engine is perfect for light weight cars like that one. full with oil they weigh less than 100kg, have excellent power per litre and are very drivable.

HGF is unheard of in the pre 96 engines, after that they can be abit dodgy due to BMW cost cutting but once fixed with the revised gasket they dont go again. post 2002 are alot better, but the 2005 land rover developed gasket solved all probs and not a single one has been reported to have failed.

cool, why dont you just get a filler cap? also why such a heavy engine in such a light car? its screaming out for a k-series tbh.

The filler cap is a breater and hence it beeing replaced due to leakage.
We used a Pinto cuz its very cheap, very reliable and a doddle to fit and work on.

And I dont like K-seiries engines.

I think id rather push it than put a rover engine in it.

The ones that end up in landrovers however.....still benefit from a ford V6 transplant.

put aside ur rover fanboy side and admit the k series in an inherently flawed engine

your talking complete and uter crap, being a rover fanboy aside the k-series engine is perfect for light weight cars like that one. full with oil they weigh less than 100kg, have excellent power per litre and are very drivable.

Still not as good as the Vauxhall XE or the PSA D6C - most notably the latter.

When did you ditch the vauxhall, Rusty?

Good to see you have a proper japanese wagon these days, had any scary sideways moments yet?

friend of mine bought one like that not long ago, hes had a month off work (well, temporarily lacking job!) so bought loads of parts, and and has got it near 300bhp now!!! says its damn scary stuff in the wet! will hit 300+ when the nismo injectors arrive... Ill try and get you some pics - its a bit minging, bodywork wise he said although I think it looks ok :)

few days ago, an FMIC went in too

:edit:

hereyar! (his FTO got written off - someone went in the back of him :( was a beautiful car, and huge spec list of mods!)

That is a genuine Simplex chainring from a heavy as stone cottered crank. It makes cool shadows when you activate teh third brake light.

Do not diss the Daihatsu, its 1.3L and 16v of high revving tin can. I love having a car sh*tty enough that if people tailgate, I can slam on the brakes. Notice the dent on the trunk fascia.

They should have been more careful then, thats one advantage of buying a very cheap car, they dont want you wreaking their new one.

There is a US rental company that only rents out old bangers, if one comes back with a new dent whos going to notice?

Heres mine,
Turbo diesel sport - peugeot 306 on a T plate. But it goes pretty well since I had it tuned at Derv Doctor in Ashbourne :) PLenty of torque anyway. And im going to Longlife in Leeds on saturday for a decat (particle filter- diesel), and subtle stainless steel exhaust. Nothing chav like.

Its not flip paint no, thats not my kind of thing.

The new exhaust is realy nice, the de-cat has REALLY helped the car. Revs smoother, and low end is better. Im at 115bhp :) But its the torque i luuurrrvvveee !

Edd - youl have the same turbo as me, Garrett GT15, it responds much better when tuned. But as your car has an ECU (mine doesnt, its mechanical) - youd have to get yours re-mapped. Youd be looking at 5+ more mpg then :D

Great cars ;)
