How she stands for the time being. Got some Heko wind deflectors on which are quite subtle and surprisingly effective but otherwise standard, for now.

It doesnt look that good now really, that pic was taken after an all day polishing session.
I haven;t even driven it for a while, I've been stuck the with the Metro since my missus got a new job in the complete oposite direction to me.
Another decent pic I found

New engine and ecu going in next month, then new turbo etc in the summer time hopefully and 600bhp  Although 99% of people hate them! lol

another mk2 g60, got shut of the s4 nearly a year ago so i could start my business without fearing a 3k turbo meltdown.
part of me wishes i hadn't but then i can barely afford to run and repair this so an S4 wouldn't have been any cheaper.

Nice car nexus. Love the noise those little mivec v6's make.
I've recently sold the Metro and replaced it with an unbeleivably boring Renault Megane DCI :gag:

It is funny as you drive at 50kph and its roaring away and if you were in say my mums Vitz it would be on about 7000rpm ish and you look at your dial and your on 2000rpm it makes you laugh.
Needs oil filter and new oil done because that is all crap and it is feeling better now its had two drinks from the pump as it was virtually bone dry at the car yard.
I think just sorting the little niggles from it sitting for weeks hardly being drove and it will be nicer.
I got to reset the management system and its one of the learning ones according to the book and its fitted to the previous driver I think so some down shifts when I do not expect them.
That not a problem either.
At 6ft 3 you do fit in it quite nicely, which surprises people but no one can sit behind me, but who cares.
Smoked a Celecia and a BMW off the line at on ramps already, just getting to about 80-90kph, not speeding but beating them to the punch

Had a couple of rides over the past two years.
Built a Golf mk2 2.0 16v then the floorpan fell through.
At this point I built a 160bhp golf mk3 TDi, this was then written off when a police car decided it liked landing on top of parked cars.
Had a BMW 120d mSport for a short while.
Finished building my new Golf Mk2 16v about a month ago and then had a Tensioner fail on me and that engine came out last night. Currently sat with a 2.0 block and a 2.8 vr6 block wondering what to stick in it. Due to this incident I have an ultra cool euro style timing belt.

Running Bilstein Shocks, Tein springs -40mm and a stupid powerflow backbox.
Unfortunately minus the front splitter.
Whilst I've had it i've done:
Replaced drivers central locking solenoid as it screeched like a stabbed baboon.
Replaced entire drivers electric window mechanism.
Replaced fuel filler neck
Changed headunit
Need to change the speakers as there is more holes than swiss cheese.
The car is booked in at the garage on Thursday for it's clutch and oil leak to be taken care of.
All in though, not too shabby for £650.
Now if you'll excuse me, It's snowing and I've got a 4x4 to play in :D

You know that moment where you start a job and you get carried away...
Sorry for the poor quality, found holes under the mounting point for the battery so ended up grinding it all down to get it patched and then one conversation later with my painter and the seem welds are getting taken down to the metal. Semi-smooth bay ahoy.

Smooth bay's FTL!
I know what you mean about getting carried away. I've just splashed out on a new Denso Lambda, rocker gasket kit + grommets and CTS from RockAuto!
-
Haha it's a nightmare. I'm keeping a lot of it but smoothing the strut legs and keeping all of the other shape, only other thing that is getting smoothed is the aerial grommit on the wing.
Back to VW after work for some VW loom tape. Built a full loom last night and it came out really well.

I've always wanted to have a go at restoring car, or putting a diesel engine into another car (like something sporty) but i've always been worried about the wiring being too hard for me.
-
If I have issues I've got a lot of support around me so it helps a lot really and they are all really good in different areas.
Always live by this... Learn by doing.

Been quite a while since I was around these parts. Had this beauty since last September:

Recently I went from this 16 year old 5 speed tiptronic FTO GPX with 105,000 miles on the clock :-

So far I have :-
Had it fully serviced with new cambelt, spark plugs, all filters, all fluids, track rod end, drop links etc.
Fitted Enkei 17" alloys from an Evo 8 with Goodyear Eagle F1 235/40 tyres.
Wilwood 4 pot big brake upgrade and braided brake hoses front and rear.
Fullly adjustable BC Racing coilover suspension. Running about 5cm lower at the front and 3cm lower at the rear.
Lightweight aluminium rear sway arms.
20mm rear ARB.
Front and rear strut braces.
Carbon fibre bonnet and boot.
Retro facelift front bumper fit. Not perfect, but then the bumper looked like it had been accident damaged at some point :(

Complete respray in original imperial red.
The car came with a very loud exhaust, ITG air filter and aftermarket steering wheel. It's like new inside and still has the original tape player and 6 CD changer(which broke last weekend).
There are very few things I want to do with the car now other than use it, it's my daily driver. I'm sure at some point I'll get a piggy back ECU and have it properly tuned once I've changed the exhaust manifolds, downpipes and mid section for something more performance orientated. That should get me another whopping 10~20bhp :D
All in all, ace car to drive. Much lighter than standard and has considerable grip with the tyre upgrade from 205 to 235.
-
Looks a real beauty, I love the imperial red colour. What was the main reason for the sidestep into another similar FTO, was it just all the sporty extras that were fitted?
-
I wanted a manual and one with less miles as the black one was getting a bit shabby.
Plus this one is in much better condition underneath. Considerably less rust.
-
i hate to be a **** and i know im only looking at pics on a forum, but there isn't a single panel gap thats the same front to back on that car. i hope its got good history. or that they're just bad shadows making it look like bad gaps.
-
Manual FTO's are like rocking horse sh**, a future classic for sure. Nice car mate.

I think you're just looking at the front bumper. The rest of the car is fine. The front bumper came off another car that had a little front bump, that's why it's not so great fitment.
Edit: just noticed the gap between the drivers side light and the bonnet. The bonnet is a carbon fibre one I salvaged from a scrap yard. I had to drill out two hinge bolts, one either side, and now only one side has two bolts in, the other only has 1 bolt in. This makes the bonnet sit a little funny. Which reminds me i need to source a bigger bolt for it. Hopefully that'll pull it into place and even things up.
-
i had spotted that bonnet to wing gap, but if its a carbon bonnet fair play to you, thats a good gap!!!
i always wondered if fto's were as much fun as they looked. sometimes regret not getting out of my vw shaped comfort zone earlier.

Well this brings a tear to the eye of future Pete :-\
-
What are you driving now, Pete?
-
Ah, got a Jag XE.... It's an overpriced Rover 75 :/ feels like a right downgrade from the merc I had anyway.
You?
-
Driving an 2007 Toyota Auris 2.0 liter diesel 300NM torque. :)
-
I got no car at the moment.

LOVED the XJR I had... really sad to see it go
had an S type before that, it was pretty naff
had an XJ6 before that (had to google, it was at least 1984) and it was awesome in an old kind of way... the build quality was really impressive, enough that people who got in constantly complimented it
not at all impressed by the new jags
-

Nissan Leaf, which also feels like somewhat of a downgrade from the 735 I was driving before, despite it being almost 20 years newer. Solid car though, the Leaf. Can't fault it on its own terms. Costs me peanuts too.
-
All mine are disappointing, apart from the one that's off the road.
Nissan Elgrand, this is a lot of fun. 240bhp, no driver aids in an 8 seater people carrier. RWD with an LSD. Unfortunately off the road as we were supposed to be using the camper as a daily. Until I threw my toys out of the pram.
I'd just like to point out that I actively hate VAG cars, I find them boring and uninspiring to drive. A "Default Settings" kind of car. I would never choose one for myself.
With that said.
VW T5 Camper.
VW Up!
VW Caddy (Work van, so not mine)
Vauxhall Astra 1.4T Estate
And now the fun begins.
Triumph Sprint RS Motorbike
Husqvarna TE410E Motorbike.
It has been said, that I have too many vehicles.
