Sub woofer
on: September 02, 2011, 20:04:51 PM
Today I got a sub woofer and it goes boom boom boom boom  :ptu:

Been wanting one for ages and today I went to halfords to get some car wax and I got a 10" in a box with amp built in, basically it was the only one that looked small enough for a bini.

So now I've got:

Sony mp3 hu
Infinity reference comps
stock mini 6x9s
and a boomy sub

Woooo!!
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

If it's stock 6x9s they're assumedly not bodged jobs like the parcel shelf of an old escort that said STEAL ME

Nothing wrong with components and a sub tbh, if you like good music on the go what's the problem  :-X

You've ruined the sound stage of the car.  All the noise is behind you.  It's like being at a concert and standing with your back to the band.

Sub + 6x9's in a small hatchback is a no-no.  Amped components + Sub = Perfect.

I do want to replace the front components with some proper decent ones at some point and amp them like soopha said but that means lots more wiring and I cba at the moment.

This was all dirt cheap though -
Sony HU £80 iirc
Components £50
Sub £80

And damn right it's chavvy - I'm loving it.

I had an anti-6x9 guy who's got £100s of amps + expensive components sit in my car and he was like, nahh you don't need sh*tty 6x9s so he faded it all forward. He sat there for two minutes and faded it back. Ok the infinity components aren't exactly brilliant but the back speakers fill things out nicely. The sub takes a lot of load off the speakers and hu now so funnily enough it sounds way better.

I used to have a bass tube in my old Clio, it was great. Every car I've had since has had poor to average speakers, you always end up lacking bass simply because they don't make decent speakers with a cone profile good enough to produce bass at reasonable volumes. I'd sooner do it the way Pete has if on a budget, a sub will make massive difference to overall sound you're trying to achieve. Car high fidelity is a hard thing to achieve without megabucks and a lot of sound proofing.

My setup will be going in the Clio, only to mask the many rattles from the doors and sunroof.

I've got:

10" Vibe Black Air subwoofer
Magnat 600w 4ch Amp
Sony GTX-CD25 (Utter sh*te, but will be swapped out for my Alpine)
What ever door speakers I can find to fit.

I never connect up the rear speakers when I do an install in a small car.
I didn't even have them connected in my Soarer.

The Magnat Amp/Alpine HU/Vibe Subwoofer is my tried and trusted setup.  I can set it so that I can 100% the amp and get no distortion.
