As it was billed before the match, we needed a good result and a good performance.

Did we get either?

As a tactical game you got both, delaying having to play Germany means putting off whats going to be a hard game, we can take them on later if they are still there. England may not have to play Germany at all if the Germans loose out

As for the performance it was good enough.

I thought Owen Hargreaves had a really good 1st half and a not so good 2nd half.  However, I believe we changed our style of play and he struggled with it.

Yeah he played well in the first half. I was quite surprised as he is one of the squad who I dont think should be there; Ive never been happy with the selection of a Canadian for the English team.

Youre right about him in the second half though, he looked completely lost playing that defence-midfield link up position. Strangely though I think thats the position he plays in for Bayern !

I really want to know what Sven will do about our striking problem. I know that Crouch/Owen is ok, Rooney/owen is good but Crouch/Rooney ? And maybe even Rooney/Gerrard ! The later would be a mistake imo, both players tend to be out-of-the-box shooters. They are not predators like Owen and Crouch.

Come on England, come on England ;) :)

If anyone has anyone doubt that Owens knee is not well and truly FUBAR then they need to watch this slow motion.  You can see the knee giving way.  That may be career threatening.

So, you accept the 1-5 was a fluke then?    ;)  :P

Nah, well done England - fair result. :)  Next roundages should be interesting.

WALCOT (or JENAS)

or even as a 4-3-2-1 with Gerrard and Rooney sitting infront of the other 3 and Crouch or Walcot as a target man.

Sorry I meant that to look like a 4-4-1-1, not a 4-4-2.

We really need either a link up midfield/forward or 2 attacking midfielders with a single *striker*. imo ;)

Basically Id just stick the *best* 11 I had out on the field and say "right then.  you sort it out yourselves as Im off home" :D

Has Lennon ever played on the left?  :? Personnaly I thought it worked quite well when we had Lennon on the right and Beckham dropped just behind him against T&T.

For Me...

Cole, Gerrard, Hargreaves/Carrick, Lampard, Beckham/Lennon

We are playing slighty better every match, but we have no chance of winning the tournament on current standards.  ROFL at ITV commentating of "We have no other forwards" just before the camera over looks the bench with Theo sitting on it.

I bet Defoe is kicking his TV.

England played very well first half and gave sweden hard pressure. Sweden played well second half (often like that
sleeping first half but waking up after one point down).

Difference was Sweden wanted it and went for it. England just sat back all the way through. Exactly as the first two games.
