Anyone got any recommendations on where I could get some cheap plastic covers for the 4 anchor points for roof bars, on a MkV Vauxhall Astra? I don't really care about them being matched colour, would settle for silver or black (car is grey), but so far I've only heard they're £10 a piece, and I can't bring myself to spend £40 on a set...
(It's a 10 year old car so it seems the clips had perished...as soon as I tried to take them out to put the roof bars on for the first time they just snapped off...)

If your talking about the 4 covers that sit in the roof wells where the bars go into, then i can probably sort you out, or i should be able too, seeing as though i do work in scrapyard. :P
Best get me a colour code of your vehicle as i might have grey ones, but i defo got a set of silver ones.
I'll do you a deal on them, really depends how labour intensive it is, if its a 5 minute job i'll bribe one of the lads with donuts!
PS. Just making sure yours is a 5DR Hatch or Estate? 2004-2006?
-
Cheers dude!
2004 hatchback, it's an Astra H or Mk5 depending on where you go on the internet. I'll try and find the colour code tomorrow.
-
The silver ones had already gone, the grey ones were inaccessible for the moment as the vehicles is on the top tier of a 3 tier rack, the black ones were available but i assume where they have been sat in the sun it has made them really brittle, i assume this is the issue.
We get MK5's in all the time so i'll keep trying.

I think the colour code is silver grey "Z3KU"
Cheers dude. Out of interest how much would it cost to get both sets of front and read headlamp units? My front ones are pretty grotty inside, and the back left one has a hole in it, from what I don't know!

Bigger items like that, its probably best to shop locally, there must be a scrappy near you, although i will get a price, i assume your headlights are chrome inside? The biggest issue is getting pairs as most cars are hit on the front. Smaller items like the covers will barely cost me anything so i can do something on those.

take the headlights off, fill em half full with rice, stick em on a paint mixer for 10 minues and voila, like new.
-
Just need a paint mixer and that'd be an excellent idea!
-
pretty sure you can mimic the effect by just shaking them by hand, takes a lot longer though.
-
Fill them with rice, refit them and go for a drive during daylight?
-
fill them with rice, leave it in, refit them
pour some water in, turn your lights on and go back in the house
the smell of the hot bulb cooking the rice will attract Chinese people who will fix the lights for you ?

Genuine LOL

I would just like to point out i'm off this week so the covers will have to wait til i'm back at work. :P
-
Any progress?
I may also be in the market for an air intake manifold now :dunno:
-
I had some progress, i removed 4 sets and they were all so brittle they just broke, i am thinking is it a design flaw, the sunlight on the plastic etc.
As for air intake, we do not strip the engines at all, they go as in one unfortunately. I will still look for some covers though, i could also see if we can get them new (aftermarket)
-
Yeah, those clips are pretty pathetic.
Shame about the manifold not being separate. Will have to wait and see what the garage says on monday.
