Already done good sir!  Also cut off and filed down the gear lever mounts, its gonna look crazy tight :D

Paint was taken off with a steel brush and some nasty paint and varnish remover, and a helluva lot of elbow grease!  Burns like a bastard when it gets on your skin, and my hairs gone curly on top where flecks of it landed on my bonce.  Friendly stuff  :shock:

Har, thats why Im a fan of leaving the original paint with a good sanding and priming. :P

Clearcoat was recommended as home paint tends to be really brittle and the clear will keep it safe. ;)

niceee :) tbh... I quite like the look of plain metal.

Any way you could just polish the metal and just maybe clearcoat it and have done with it? :)

Just thought but I saw a one with a hammerite bronze finish and it looked the absolute biz :)

If you dont varnish it the metallic look doesnt shine properly anyway ;)

Nah, it rusts.  While googling for bike painting tips I found a forum post by a guy who did that, it gets little rivers of rust running under the surface.  Ive got them on my frame too, although Ive sanded most of them off.

Yeah, I started off with just sanding and got a great finish, but kidded myself into thinking it would be quicker to strip the lot off :D

As for paint, Ive bought standard halfords automotive primer and a can of smooth yellow hammerite.  I looked at clearcoat but thought I already had a can at home.  Turns out I dont have much of it left so Ill probably go and buy another can after Ive done the yellow.

Ive a can of clearcoat in the garage that I never used, as I was waiting for my paint to harden, got impatient and built it up w/o clear. Now Ive got all sorts of nasty nicks and chips. Needs a respray, what a pita that is. :P

I keep toying with the idea of stripping my Kona down and sending it to Argos Racing Cycles for a Snow Camo respray, along with my forks, the fully re-stickered.

But that may have to wait until I get the Haro DHR.

Since this is turning into a bit of a work log:



All primed up and ready for the colour tomorrow.  The flash has oversaturated it, the frame is the same colour as the forks hanging in the top right corner.
