"Buffering" with XBMC and sabNZBd on HP Microserver
on: January 26, 2012, 14:35:12 PM
If I am watching something in XBMC on my HP Microserver and sabNZBd (driven by Couchpotato or Sickbeard) happens to download something the video stream will start to buffer until sabNZBd has completed its post processing.

I'm not sure if this is a CPU or a network (all files held over network) restriction.

Does anyone know of a way I could force sabNZBd to check if XBMC playing video and if it is queue any post processing requests?

Its extremely annoying during films, especially as there's no way to stop or pause the post processing once its started.

You can schedule post processing to happen during the night, that should help. Or schedule it when you're guaranteed to be not watching anything.

The action dropbox has a pause and resume post processing option in there. Schedule it to pause when you get home from work or are more likely to be watching a film and then restart when you're usually in bed.

It does the same on my windows box too, as soon as it starts unraring if you're watching HD off of it, stutter time
Serious Matt, you may use google, I don't :P - neXus Since going to a mac at work I am LEAST 3 times faster.

That's a good shout, but if you need the file then I just grin and bear it, would be nice if you could throttle CPU/HDD access speed.

Is this the download scheduler or is there a separate post proc scheduler? Ideally I'd like things to download when they become available then process overnight.

Sounds like a good plan though.

On the web frontend of SABnzbd go into config > scheduling

There is an option to only pause post processing. So all of the downloading will carry on as normal. The scheduler will pause post processing until you resume it, so set up the resumption for a decent period of time.

Thats a full win.

I've set that up, probably worth adding it to one of the guides.
