Speed up connecting
on: December 10, 2010, 17:16:23 PM
Anyone know how I can speed up the actual time it takes to connect to a Wi-Fi network (and it actually be connected to the internet)?

When I connect to a network via WiFi on my laptop its instant but on my PC it takes about 30 secs...

delete all your wireless profiles & start again. Also use windows and not the 3rd party app.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

or if you do want to use the 3rd party app for some reason, make sure the Windows app is disabled. The important thing is to make sure theres only one instance of wireless software running, otherwise they "fight" and break everything.

Is there ever any advantage to using Manufacturers provided software/interface? I find it puzzling that they always include software when Windows does it all for you anyway, surely they have their own optimisations specific for the hardware that should make it a bit better?

Thats why people have problems with their PCs - installing superfluous sh*t.

I think the wireless card I have works better using the manufacturers gubbins. Its also a lot more verbose so I could position the antennae into optimal angles to get the best signal out of them.

3rd party wi fi apps used to cause a huge amount of fault calls at work. Put a stop to it with group policy in the end - no issues since.

I spit at you intel pro software!!
