[XBOX360] Xtreme 2.0 Released

flashed and upgraded tonight, its basically 0800 and Xtreme all in one. meaning you can backup your games without having to reflash to the 0800 firmware.

Do you use Live! and if so, does it not worry you that M$ might develop and rollout a detection system that knackers your Live! account ?

I ask because that is the only thing stopping me from backing up my games...

No live sucks, apart from the downloads.

To be perfectly honest i dont see how they can check for a firmware on a DVD drive... I think they know that too.

They can do it wih great ease tbh.  Its not hard to dump the firmware of a drive back and forwards if you have the operating system under your control (which MS do).

But its not really an issue, MS actually only really banned people from live last time round to stop people cheating on live and nothing to do with piracy.  Live is their cash cow and anything that makes the system unfair would wreck it for them.  As long as people dont make a modchip that lets you change the game code or open up the operating system and rom  chips on the motherboard like we did last time I doubt theyll actually do anything.

Theyve made the process difficult enough and the consoles expensive enough to scare off the vast majority of the population so its not a huge issue like it was for the cheap and solderless modchips of the original xbox.

Either way Ill be chipping mine as soon as I see a little more info from the mod chip community regarding standard features and how they will handle Microsoft changing the disc formats to block the current gen of hacks.

The only benefit I can see for me is that I could run backups of my games so I would be more prepared to take it over to my mates who has two young children.  The 360 has a habit of scratching discs at the slightest vibration so being able to run them I wouldnt be so bothered if it got knocked and scratched.  Having said that, I would rather not get my Xbox360 blacklisted when MS decides to counteract this.

And not forgetting my warranty.  I dont have complete confidence in my Xbox360 lasting very long since its 1st gen.

Yer my 360 died after 6months, would of been a pain in the ass if I had messed with it.

I think after the warrenty is over I may just buy another and turn this one into one to piss around with / use for hacking up.

its naughty firmware you can put on which allows DVD+/-R DL discs too boot backups.

can be applied to Samsung or Hitachi drives, samsung easier than hitachi.

need a sata controller compatible with MTKFLASH too.
