2013 Movies to watch
on: December 29, 2012, 02:41:37 AM
Thought to do one of these again :)

I start with this as this could be a surprise;
Warm Bodies
Another Zombie movie but a new take on it that looks interesting. What does a Zombie actually think about? You could indeed be you trapped in a body with the need to eat people you can not control till you finally give up your mind.
Here is the first few minutes:

We may as well then show this:
World War Z
They Scraped the original story and re-did it and its Brad Pitt's own studio making this.
Another take on zombies that are swarm like and fast moving so could mean for some high action.
Lets see, worth a look.

Django
Its the main man making this so what more is there to say?

The Great Gatsby
These trailers interest me to the story of which I know nothing about but I like the cast and the style. I want to see this

John Dies at the end:
I do love this style of movie and concept is interesting. This will be one to rent at home and not see on the big screen but could be a fun Friday evening if your not going out with a take out.

Star Trek Into Darkness
The first was a surprise hit for me. I liked it. I know some do not but I enjoyed it.

Pacific Rim:
Big Robots and Big Monsters, this could be a surprise fun ride :)

The Last Stand
Arnie is back, I am just keen to see how good or bad this is really. One to watch at home for me.

The Man of Steel:

Nolan has set the real standard for the DC comic hero's. Marvel has found it's style and Avengers, X-Men and the sperate movies for each character are doing well.
DC has tried a few times and failed because it has tried to replicate that style, DC super heroes are a lot more gritty and Nolan really set a great tone with his batman.

While he is not directing this he is heavily involved and in the writing for this too. And you can see his stamp on it and that they want the same sort of Vibe for this movie.

This looks interesting, it could be good.

After Earth:
Will Smith and his son in this.
Yes it is M. Night Shyamalan and he has been a big Miss recently on his movies but this is written by Gary Whitta who was an ex game journalist and Wrote  The Book of Eli of which the movie I really really liked, and he was involved in the recent Walking Dead game in scripting.

Oblivion:
Never knew about this till the trailer came out, looks interesting and similar "After Earth" Concept to the one above :)

Iron Man 3:
I like the Iron man movies so looking forward to this.

Other Mentions:

A Good Day To Die Hard - Hmmm
Next Hobbit Movie - Yup
Monsters Inc 3D (prequel) - Hmm
Anchorman: The Legend Continues - PLEASE BE GOOD!
Evil Dead - just to see what this is like.
Ender’s Game
Fast Six- Last two have been really good and re vitalised things.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - I quite liked the first one
Kick-Ass 2 - PLEASE BE GOOD
Thor: The Dark World - Thor was not bad
The Wolverine
The World’s End - Simon Pegg

Elysium

Gravity:
Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star as a pair of astronauts who, when their orbiting space station falls apart after a catastrophic incident, must fight for survival in debris-strewn space.
When the movie was still at the scripting stage, word got out that it was intended to unspool in a single, unbroken shot, with the camera moving in and around the action without an obvious edit. That same free-flowing concept appears to have found its way into the finished movie, with rumours of the opening scene comprising a single 17-minute shot, and the entire film containing only 150 or so shots in total.

Rumour: Family Guy Movie

There's certainly a few good looking films coming this year don't know how many I'll get to see but there's certainly 7 or 8 out of that lot and am sure there'll be a few more on top of that as well.

I read John Dies at the End when it was a free online hyperfiction/book thing, managed to read it all just before it got picked up by the publishers and then removed from the authors website. It's an ace mishmash of stephen king meets Terry Pratchett meets Philip.K.Dick IMHO.

HAVE YOU SEEN THE EVIL DEAD TRAILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I CANNOT WAIT!

Not at all bothered about any garbage Peter Jackson makes.  He could make a loony toons episode last 4 hours with absolutely nothing happening.

Looks like 2013 should be a good year. For my own tastes Iron Man 3, Oblivion, Man of Steel, Trek : Into Darkness, Kick-Ass 2, new Die Hard, Thor : Dark World and the next Hobbit film will all be getting watched.

World War Z looks awful, it appears as though they've taken a fun tongue in cheek concept and turned it into something horribly generic. I also can't get over how retarded Pacific Rim looks. It looks as though it'll make Transformers look high brow and intellectual. I really hope the Last Stand is good, it would be nice to see Arnie back on form.

I agree with you on your choices Quixoticish, I'd also like to add I'm looking forward the most to Arnie's return to the big screen, he's got another film due with Sly Stallone as well where they are breaking out of prison, I forget what it's called. If these are a true return to form it will all be badass 8)

I'm also quite interested in Django Unchained, The Great Gatsby and the Evil Dead remake.

The Evil Dead remake looks like it could be rather good, I forgot to mention that one. Hopefully it'll be loved but for different reasons than the original, which is obviously awesome in it's own way.

When I first heard about this I did think.... oh dear. The original was silly, cheap and VERY crap and just funny when you look back with it with a slight love for what it was in an odd way. IT was not till Evil Dead 2 when things really became cult with Bruce Campbell really making the role something daft and special :)

The original is FAR from silly.  It was a genuine attempt at a horror movie.
The second one is essentally a silly remake of the first.  This is taking the Evil Dead back to basics, stripped back and rebuilt from the ground up.
No CGI.

I too thought that a remake was a bad idea, but the more I see, the more excited I get.  Midnight screening a must!

I know it was, no budget or anything, I did mention that. BUT it was silly as a result and they rolled with it in 2 and beyond which made them cult.

The remake does look proper scary and the actual story may be good enough to make a good horror with modern film tech.

AS a side note, anyone seen cabin in the woods? I keep hearing people talk about it as if it is the saviour of horror movies. Is it worth watching?
