New computer
on: April 26, 2013, 13:44:15 PM
What's the best value processor to get? I have an i5 3ghz right now (2nd gen) but want to upgrade.
Was looking at a 3.4ghz i5 3rd gen. Anything AMD do ok ?

And what is a quality board to go with that. I have an SSD as my main h/d and 16gb ram.

Thinking of
Asus P8Z77
Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz Socket 1155 6MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor

Just need some ram to match, unless my existing
Corsair 16GB (2x 8192MB) DDR3 1600MHz PC3-12800

is good enough?

AMD hasn't done anything worth looking at since the 64 X2 chips.

Good choice of mobo, I nearly bought that same board when I built mine. If I'd have had the money I'd have plumped for that processor too!

Tbh i looked on Ebay recently for my first gen i5 750 and they are making £80, so i assume £125 for your cpu/board should be doable (i've not checked ebay but i'm sure you can) :)
