3d printer
on: February 19, 2015, 00:38:53 AM
finally bought a 3d printer (after the first one I ordered didn't turn up)

kit I bought it a bit of a mess... but all the bits I want to improve I can re-print anyway

still a little rough for now...

a load of the wires need extending, but I'm waiting till I'm up and running so I don;t have to change them a 2nd time

first prints..

supposed to be a 20x20x20mm cube... all went a bit wrong... hopefully sorted now... about to have another go :-)

it came with a 12v 20amp psu... the fan in it is the nosiest fan on the planet... I've got a better psu at work but keep forgetting to bring it home :-(

That might be your problem, Knighty, it's dimensionally retarded!  ??? :P :P :P :P :P :P :nana:

Low end 3D printers seem to be suffering the same sort of reliability and build problems that earlier computers had. Hopefully they can get the issues sorted within a few years and then they can go mainstream

damn... I just noticed that and edited it... thought I got to it before anyone saw it

printing right now, working much better.... the filiment motor was set to 750steps per 100mm.... instead of 105... so i was putting out 7.5x as much plastic as it needed :-o

How much did the set up cost you?

about £280 delivered iirc

probably £325 iah by the time I'm done with a few upgrades etc...

kits are a bit naff tbh, but it's easy enough to print upgrades

if anyone wants one... I can print all the plastic parts, with upgrades etc.. and then you can just but a kit with the steel/motors etc.

upgrades like belt tensioners... hardly any kits have them, but print quality is crap without them

and frame blocks with screw holes, so the printer can be screwed down to a bit of wood, to keep the frame nice and rigid !
