Yes its alot closer to the manga apparently.  Unfortunately its going to be a long time between episodes.  There are going to be Nazis and stuff. :)

Still not sure about this anime thing - japs seem to make some rather disturbing films - seems they get away with rather a lot simply because it is in cartoon form:

Far too much schoolgirls getting their clothes ripped off and abused for me :(

Some producers have to be sick in the head.

Havent seen any for well over a year and I dont think Im missing anything.

Anime = Normal Animation
Hentai = The crap you two are going on about, that is sick and just not very nice. Initial D has none of that, nor does Bleach etc etc....

Anime does have this constant unfortunate stigma of tentacles making their way to any and every womans crevice.

I have always viewed anime as an art - it is what you take it as, and you can get so much more (as well as get away more from film reality or live action), there are endless animes that illustrate what you just cant do with film - be it subjectional taboo, or out of this world.

A lot of anime have a lot of deeper meanings, and whilst some may translate this as "sh*te endings" because they do not involve closure, it is how you interpret it for yourself and what you take from it.  I dont see how Donnie Darko differs from anime in the sense that its how you interpret things - and indeed there are more written thesiss and articles about Neon Genesis Evangelion than Donnie Darko.

The vast diversity of anime varies as well, its really what you look for in anime, just like there will be certain genres of film you may not prefer over another.  I dont like Van Hellsing, Noir, Trigun, Initial D (though I liked the first series) etc., but these are well known animes and ranked as highly recommended favourites - but they are just not for me.

And there hasnt been a western producer of any film that hasnt sickened you?  I had to stop watching Last House on the left because I thought I was going to throw up just at the mere thought of what was going to happen next, nevermind what actually did happen thereafter.  My point is youve been exposed to anime you obviously dont like . . .

. . . and are sterotyping that view of anime you do have to avoid viewing anime you actually might - or even might not - enjoy.

I view anime as I view films (real life acting ones) and even music - there is something out there for everyone, if you dont look for it, or brand everything as the same thing that you dont like, you will never know what you are missing.

Sometimes its an acceptable compromise, blood, guts and gore dont bother me at all but shove forced sexual activity or torture in there and I dont like it at all.

OTOH it seems to permiate through the entire Japanese culture, not just animated films.

I agree with serious tbh... there is something dodgy with certian areas of jap culture. I guess it is easier for them to get away with certian subject areas if they are in cartoon form but it is still rather disturbing.

A couple of years back I visited a japanese video clip site, as it wasnt in english I couldnt understand what the text was saying so I clicked a link with a picture of a bus on it. What appeared was a young japanese woman, dressed as a schoolgirl, who then appeared to be graphically molested and raped by three blokes on a commuter bus

I closed the window, wiped the cache clean and havent been back, too nasty IMO.

Anime wise its been a long long time since I watched any, watched Ghost in the SHell again a while back but reading more manga than anything else. If you read manga try and find Lady Snowblood (by the creature of lonewolf and cub) great story 3 volumes out to date and released by Darkhorse, can be bought in Forbidden Planet, Waterstones and any comic book store I would say.

Oh if anyone can help, was Devilman ever released on DVD??? I only have a vhs copy thats dead now that I recorded off Sci Fi chan almost 6 years ago.
