Anyone fitted an LCD to their case?
on: October 21, 2006, 13:36:17 PM
Now that I use my 24" Dell as my TV screen with the HTPC I dont have a screen for my server... now I still use the system a lot via remote desktop but Id like a screen to see whats going on when its booting, and for stats (system stats, ftp server, etc).

Id like something thatll fill the 3x5.25" bays, depending on price touchscreen. Anyone done something like this? Would appreciate any links to guides etc, as Ive only managed to find some pretty cruddy stuff.

Most of the stuff you can find on EBAY with regards to small touchscreens tend to be epos crap. Which... tend to have crap proprietary connectors, you may be lucky and find one from a siemens epos unit or similar thatll have VGA in. Then itd just be a case of removing the casing and bodging it in.

But I think your on a losing streak if you want a small touchscreen for cheap.

There are some available but they were not intended for the job you want so arent exactly cheap. Probably the most suitable would be LEP screens but they are mostly still in development. Eventually the side of the case could be your screen though.

TBH it would be nice to have a low energy boot up screen on the side of the compy.
