Ive got GC Linux running on mine with a wireless keyboard (ps/2 kbd -> controller port adapter), booting from an SD card. :)

Can you elaborate?  Got any links besides GC-specific ones?

whats the likelyhood that my parents will be able to walk into argos or a shop tomorrow and buy one of these?

Also... what connections do they have? Ideally Id like to have it with VGA so I can just plug in my computer monitor obviously :)

Not sure what you mean? The Wii is pretty much an overclocked GC with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, you can just plug pretty much any PS/2 keyboard into it using one of these.

Works a treat  8) I predict battery life of around 37 hrs continuous use, runs off AAs.  Cost me about £2.70.

Sure I could spray it silver and put red plastic over the LEDs/spunk more money on a case that i didnt find in a drawer, but why bother?  It does the job, and its not like I notice it under my 10 foot glowing wall  ;)

I have seen one made out of a bit of card with the leds fastened on and the batteries hidden around the back. card was coated with black plastic so it looked OK.

I wasnt doing it for the aesthetics, as its in a drawer when its not being used and invisible once its sat below the projector image.

Anyone with a projector will know what a PITA the stock sensor bar is, I had to sit my Wii on a coffee table in the middle of the room with cables running at waist height to opposite walls for sensor bar/projector linkage.  This is much better :)  I could have done the 2 candles trick, but this is somewhat more reliable.

BTW if anyones seen the retail wireless sensor bar that sells for about £20, dont be fooled.  Its 4 leds pushed through some cable trunking, with a 9v battery stuck in.  Ã‚£3 in parts.  And it would be appaling for large rooms because it doesnt have the FOV of mine ;)

why not buy some cable trunking, bar up both ends, cellotape your ir leds all pointing into the trunking, and pour in a load of clear expoxy resin. add a couple of random colour leds and you have yourself a lightbar :D

thats what i would do imo. and run it off a set of ropelights power packh

eh?  The idea is to have two point sources so the remote can triangulate its position.  I made mine in two seperate boxes so I could vary the spacing and hence adjust its sensetivity to movements in the axis out of the screen.  This meant I could make it more suitable for a projector-size picture and the subsequently larger distance from the screen to the player.

Some  monkeyball minigames for example require you to sit within a couple of metres of the screen in order to get a decent response when moving the remote closer and further away from the screen.  I can still sit on the sofa at the other side of the room, I just adjust the spacing between the UV sources to compensate ;)

I reckon ring up your local game store and ask their situation.  I picked one up the tuesday before xmas as they were getting a few delivered most days.

The only answer I can get from various game stores is "weve sold out and we dont know when we are getting any in." Rather frustrating.
