Title: Big boy IPS time
Post by: matt5cott on April 26, 2012, 13:57:06 PM
Currently looking at Dell U2711s and Hazro HZ27WCs, I'm very much on the verge of pulling the trigger and putting this out on here to see if anyone has any other good shouts or yays and nays RE the above 2

I always recommend these guys if you're going to go Dell:

http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/dell-ultrasharp-u2711-27inch-widescreen-flat-panel-monitor-with-premiercolor-black-p-1069.html (http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/dell-ultrasharp-u2711-27inch-widescreen-flat-panel-monitor-with-premiercolor-black-p-1069.html)

Good prices, no-quibble swap out dead pixel warranties and excellent customer service.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120894833442? (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120894833442?)

Man, this is cheaper, latest revision, but an eBay jobber, they do have great feedback 3yrs and 0 dead pixel too though :)

Decisions decisions  :yarr:

I have a U2711 which I bought from PCbuyit via Ebay, was a good bit cheaper than the list price on their site and with the same warranty etc: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-UK-Dell-Ultrasharp-U2711-27-IPS-LCD-Monitor-A10-/270964156807?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_Monitors&hash=item3f16b8e987#ht_3371wt_1265

Heard nothing but good things about them here and also at other places, so maybe worth sending them an email to ask when they are going to get the new rev in?

I also looked at the Hazro but decided to go with the Dell in the end as the glass is meant to be a bit reflective, while the Dell has a matt none reflective finish.

I looked at the Yamakasi Catleap but tbh despite being much cheaper the no dead pixel warranty, shoddy build quality and the fact you had to import from korea put an end to the thoughts :yarr:

You won’t regret it awesome panel! I really noticed the difference when I replaced my old Dell 24” with image quality and colours.

That window is at 1920x1080! ...so roomy!

I'm already at 1920x1200 so you'll have to do better than that  Don't the 27" panels go up to 2048x1536 or is that just the 30" behemoths?

Wait... I see what you mean now

The good news is its an A12, so an even newer revision that advertised the bad,

DOA, only half the screen works.

Why do I bother, why why why.

Just think the next one is likely to be faultless ;D

I sent back two screens with one dead pixel each before I was satisfied. Only the best

The most annoying thing was, even using the half that worked it looked bloody magnificent

mcscomuk on eBay have done nothing but jerk me around and fob me off saying I need to ring Dell as they can sort it next day, I come home from work early specifically to get the details off the box and ring Dell, 5-7 days they say.

I rang up PC buyit who are now £30 more expensive, they only have the rev a10s in.

Asked for a full refund from mcscomuk, I guess it wasn't meant to be which is a shame as it looked a lovely monitor.

What are you going to try next, cheese?

Different panel entirely?

I dunno really, it was cash in my account not credit card, might just slowly haemorrhage the money on booze and women.

Or just wait for somebody else to sell the latest panel who isn't this liar.

Both good.

It's hard to guage the scale until I look at your screen vs keyboard compared to my 24" panel, then it hits home. 'Tis a beauty 8)

Glad you got it sorted!  :)

I would guess you were on the brink of sorting your desk out just before you open the box? like I was! ...Hipflasks and silver skirting board FTW!  :ptu:

New keyboard and mouse next on the agenda?  :P

Few months shy of 10 years later, still using the aforementioned Dell monitor daily, both keyboard and mouse remain unchanged, letters fading on keyboard, text completely gone on mouse

edit- quite a bit has else has changed but the pinboard is familiar to what it is now and the orange temperature egg thing is still there

I've gone a bit mad since Christmas, now got a 38" Alienware ultrawide (3840 x 1600) - absolute beauty - just yesterday received an Amazon Warehouse Corsair K100 RGB keyboard with OPX switches, replacing another not that old/shabby Corsair mechanical keyboard.

I also bought a HX1200 Platinum Plus PSU even though I don't plan on upgrading for another year at least, but 10 year warranty, soo  Oh and a Razer Enki X gaming chair, the leather is coming apart on the very comfortable leather chair I've been sat on for god knows how long.

Stay tuned for my once a decade hyper ninja turbo PC upgrade thread...

38" Is that a TV, it must flirt between the boundaries  :ptu:

I used to cheap out on power supplies when I was a lot younger but not anymore, had a few "bronze" Ones crap out a long time ago.

Yep, it's paired with a sony CRT, used for "old" TV Shows and ps1 etc

Its is bordering on ridiculous, any larger I reckon you would be firmly in TV territory. I already have to turn my head to look at either edge,or look like this
