Cannot install ATI drivers. Have to use Manufacturers drivers ? Why ?

Ive got a Saphire (ATI) HD3560 AGP graphics card in my little Vista based media machine.

If I (try) to install ATIs latest Catalyst drivers, the drivers install but dont get tied to the GFX card. That is to say that the CCC doesnt load at boot and the card is reported as using the Microsoft Generic Video Driver.

If, on the otherhand, I download the Saphire branded Catalyst drivers from Saphires website then everything is fine.
