Bah, I miss the days of getting a new cpu every 6 months, the odd delta screamer & hb pencil, new board every year, new gfx card every 3 weeks..

Order Date: 27/08/2007

Note the crappy board and the perfectly fine crappy PSU.

It's on 5-6hrs a day and still runs fine. No smoke from the £12 PSU, CPU still running at 2.9ghz on the stock intel cooler, the crappy board still hasn't blown up.

Even the striped drives are still running without a hitch and it all runs Windows 7 perfectly well.

What am I doing wrong??

K, I did get a 7800gtx off ebay like 3 yrs ago for £40 or something and I've just put it in a shiny new case but it's still not right is it?

While the rate of technological progression is doubling every year, I think our relatively meagre requirements for office, t'internet, porn, films and the odd game are proving we don't need to keep upgrading so fast any more.

Similar here, I've had my Dell Vostro 1700 laptop for about as long 2Ghz Core 2 Duo, 3GB Ram, still works fine not faults what so ever, does everything I need it to, handles lightroom and photoshop without issue and cost £530 at the time I think, only upgrades I have done are installed an SSD and 7200rpm second drive and put windows 7 on it..

Both those upgrades definitely gave it a boost.. but maybe not essential..

I agree with clock'd that really not much is going anywhere these days to really need as much upgrading. It helps the cause that current console (and majority of gaming these days) is on systems that are 6 years old

I added more memory, replaced the graphics card after it died & replaced the PSU after it died.
