I agree.

Sam is very good at Java, JSP etc, no question but in terms of the modern web and best practises etc he has not got a blind clue. Fair enough but for the people who do (which is most people in the web industry who are half decent and beyond) he has no respect for any of it. Does not even want to acknowledge it. like here coming out about not needing the firefox addons when I as I did easily showed him he is in the group of bad developers who does not. Since everyone else does and recommends that you do.
Same with the thread how he was rifling off about optimisations and them being pointless, again that falls into the bad developer category in everyone books.

Not knowing this stuff is fine, you do not know, good to learn but if you do not that is fine. Not knowing it, not grasping it and thus just dismissing because it frustrates you etc and then telling others they are basically stupid and it is all pointless for doing or adhering all these things is just daft in my book. Considering it is everyone who is not crap In the web Industry it makes it even worse.
Just really annoys me he does not give me any respect for what I know and do or ad-hear to and also everyone else.

I right out of the box always say my Java knowledge despite doing it through my degree is fine compared to what sam can pull together is nothing, I give him full respect for that, everything else he is quite bad at, again not a problem if you go learn it all like most of us do but You just dont dismiss it all and not bother and then moan and complain about people who do making it clear they are doing pointless exercises when that very much is not the case.
Web industry VS Sams thinking basically.

Again, totally fine, wrong but if you got an opinion your entitled to it but you at least show respect hey.

Id take a bacon, egg and black pud buttie over some stupid pie.

Chrome is like a sieve and will get worse as the holes get plugged.

FF is for furries who think its cool and are amazed that its plugins do what Opera does.

Opera is for dorks.

IE is for normal people who dont give a toss.

and with due respect the preceding post made no sense at all.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

I know though, Big apology to all. Basic gripe with Sam has nothing to do with lack of knowledge etc, just his lack of respect at the end of the day.

Based on conversations with you, Working with Coldfusion and java developers who have the same thinking and same lack of understanding for a lot about modern web I can defiantly say that is a load of tosh.

Alright, example.

I integrated fancybox (like lightbox, thickbox) with a java based CMS. It took me 5 minutes.

You can laugh all you want Sam, you will just look stupid

I can post most of the best web developers in the world here with their very active twitter accounts. Some of the most active on there in fact. Having them on my twitter helping my contacts and knowledge? Hell yes.
Sorry sam, but your out the loop and wrong on this as well.
If you do not like twitter that is fair enough but, yeah, Very wrong again sam.

I agree.

Twitter is a soundboard for angsty teens, and fashion victims.

Still, itll die out soon enough. The average life of these fads is less than a couple of years.

I use firefox. Firefox is my choice as I have used the other browsers mentioned and just prefer this one. I dont really like old IE, and expect new IE is much better but cant bring myself to accept the windows update for it, so could be awesome but TBH Firefox does exactly what I require and I have no problems with it. I also drive a Ford but it does what I want and Im happy. I also use a PC running XP. Its all about weighing up the pros and cons these are the things I use because Im happy with my choices, as long as you are happy it really doesnt matter what other people think. Unless you are happy committing murder then I would suggest maybe re-thinking things and use Netscape Navigator

But my main question is.... Is this thread really still going? :)

And again, that is where your wrong. Very bad misconception. Teens Do not use twitter. The label of thinking you have on it is actually the opposite. The people you think use it, dont.

You missed the stats stuff out recently about this then..

http://mashable.com/2009/08/05/teens-dont-tweet/
http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/online_mobile/teens-dont-tweet-twitters-growth-not-fueled-by-youth/
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/26/technology/internet/26twitter.html

To who is actually using it:
http://wefollow.com/
Lots of celebs of course but then filter to web people, tech people etc and you got all the big and important people in those industries there actively using it.
Porn starts actually are heavy in using it and actually are them, same with celebs (celebs self police and report well but twitter has a whole proper celeb check and report system in place)

Like twitter or not is one thing you two and I guess others have not looked at what twitter actually is properly and have a not of assumptions which are not the case.

People who think you use the twitter site to twitter for example have no clue. You dont

The idea is you use something for what you want, not for what other people use it for. Twitter is a method of communicating, nothing more. If it works for one set of people then itll doubtless work for lots of others.

There might be numerous angsty teens, and fashion victims doing twitter, but they certainly arent in the majority.

As for it dying out, the total world market for computers was rated as maybe 5 by Thomas J Watson, President of IBM, in 1943. Think your prediction is going to be as successful as his?
