Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars Demo
Reply #30 on: March 04, 2007, 14:05:18 PM
I had a quick spin on the demo.  I quite like it, seems like a lot fun.  The Ion cannon seems to be an actuall superweapon this time around lol.  Good Stuff.

I dont think C&C have to worry about SP as competition, I know which game is better but Im still going to by C&C3 because its C&C.

to be honest its lucky it came out after supcom, people are so happy they can turn a game upto full everything (even if it doesnt look that great and deosnt even live upto the screenshots or supcom) they are happy saying "Thank god producers are being realistic with their specs!"

Supcom I find has a wide range of graphical settings.  There is big difference with the texture settings for example.

To be fair, With a 7800/7900 or X1900/X1950 card, you can play single-screen at High, with high 30s average framerates.  Its not asking the monster PC, but it vastly rewards one.  CPU doesnt matter that much, just have at least 1GB of ram.

I started a skirmish game, kicked the computers butt and then thought what else I could do.

Started mining tiberium - big time. Of course there was the problem of storage so I built a few storage silos. At just under 150,000 I got sick of building silos so I started manufacturing heavy tanks, this wasnt good enough with just two factories, so I built five more.

Some time wasted later and I had completed the task, very little tiberium crystal on the map and my silos were empty :)

Then I noticed how many tanks I had made, dozens of them, possibly a couple of hundred. Yet the interface was still fast and didnt skip at all - even when moving huge groups :D

Of course that might change when I go over to fighting more than one opponent, upping the capability of the computer controlled players might increase the issue too.

Runs on my ageing 2500+ Barton very well during the demo. Only tried it at 1024*768 as yet but I might be able to push that up a bit.

[edit] Works at 1280*1024 on the skirmish level supplied. Might be able to push it to 1600*1200 if I was lucky :) [/edit]

It does run at 1600*1200 :)

/deletes previous post

this gives me much hope that itll be more popular than the last game i bought!
If it runs on slightly crappy rigs then it should have a bit more popularity.  I just wonder how it works with on-board graphics as well.

Just had a look on Play and it seems there is a Kain edition for a few more quid...

Kain

[edit] ordered a copy so I dont have to remember when it comes out.

As a side issue play has sold out of Suocom Limited Edition Cybran Faction Pack, anywhere else got copies at the same price or is that it?

I did that, its fun, back to the good old days, you need a lot more tactics then red alert 2 now of course but you can still build massive things

2 things for me though -

I would like to zoom out a  bit more
formations - I really would like my tanks and troops moving in a nice formation or 2

Ta. Amazon had it in at the same price, just went for the free postage so hopefully it should get here eventually.

only because the 360 gamers will get utterly wiped out if they play an RTS against PC gamers online.  Gotta give them something to make up for the fact they just cant compete, no matter how good they are.

In an FPS they stand a chance against an average player, the fact a PC Gamer has such a massive level of control in an RTS means they dont stand a chance.

is there a mouse available for the 360? that would level the playing field.
