Monitor "darker" than usual...

Bit of an odd one.
Ive got a random 19" widescreen tft monitor, had it now for about 12 months and its been good.
Now for some reason everything is a lot darker than it used to be, happened suddenly about a week ago I guess.
Whites look greyish, just generally looks like the brightness is turned right down [which it isnt].
The odd thing is though when I log in or windows key+L for example or change between ress it goes to the "full" brightness for a millisecond then flips back...
Any ideas? Im on Vista if that makes any difference!

installed photoshop recently? IIRC (not used it in a whilte) it used to have a colour management system that would screw with your gamma and brightness to try make colours more real.
maybe you installed another program recently which has the same effect?

Go into the display properties, find the tab for your graphics card options and have a look at the colour profiles. In their you can mess around with contrast etc, if you revert it to default it may sort it out.

yeah I would say the backlights gone/going if it didnt flash up to full. But as above it sounds like somethings changed your computers colour profile. Adobe products have a nasty habit of doing it when they think youre in a desktop publishing environment.

Backlight is dying? ones in uni would flick at full... then die. Though on tfts well the cheapy ones Ive dealt with its normally one side is darker than the other. They dont tend to go at the same time.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Tried the above but with no joy, in the end I just upgraded to the latest graphics drivers and that sorted it :whoops:
Very strange
