Thermaltake Soprano case
on: May 25, 2007, 19:15:06 PM
Has anyone used one of these cases before? Im trying to fix a mates PC and Im pretty sure the shop that put it together havent mounted any of the drives correctly but the Thermaltake site is a bit pants and Id like to confirm this with anyone who owns the case.

Im concerned about those stupid little fiddly plastic things you clamp on to the side of the drive cage to stick your hard drives in place..... are you only supposed to have one clamp per drive (on the side with the window) and leave the rest of the drive just resting on the bent steel on the cage?

yep, that is how they work.  I tend to put screws in the opposite side, though they may have changed the design since I last had one you should still have holes there.  Pretty much the entire range work the same way IIRC.  Been a while since i used a T-Take, though i did like them.

It seems they have changed the design, there are only single screw holes on the opposite side and these dont line up properly so Ive ditched the clips and screwed them in on the windowed side, I guess thats as secure as its going to get. Ive got to try and figure out how to attach the CD drives now since those flimsy plastic things that you stick in the screw holes have all snapped off as well.

Well this is an intolerably stupid case. Its like a reverse tardis, huge on the outside and tiny and cramped on the inside. I finally managed to sort out my problems by chucking all of the plastic bits for the hard drives and screwing them in, and drilling out the clips for the CD-RWs and screwing those in as well rather than just sticking them in the drives screw holes. Its thankfully stopped the bizarre rattling and vibrating that was going on as well.
