Hi all,

Not been on for a while and there seems to have been alot of changes.

Ive been given a brand new Dell Dimension 3100 through work to use as i wish but it will only take a PCI gfx card!

Does anyone know a good replacement mobo i can stick in this thing so i can use the existing hardware?

P4 2.8ghz 512
512mb DDR2 400mhz
160gb 7200 SATA
2 PCI slots
One PCIe x1
230 watt power supply

Thats the spec page.

Thanks for any help in advance  :)

Surely for the cost of a half decent motherboard replacement you could buy a PCI-e graphics card anyway?

What graphics card do you have right now?

230 watt power supply..

Is it a std psu you can replace or a Dell Funny Shape(tm) one?

Id say get a cheapy case with a 400w psu (if its the latter), new motherboard, more memory & a gfx card.

edit: what Clockd sa1d :)
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

I have an ATI x800 PCI Express x 16 gfx card which won?t fit the dell machine and the best card the mobo will take is a GForce 6200 PCI card.

The PSU seems like a standard size one.

It might be the best idea to get a cheap case and a new mobo.

Thanks.

Is this going to be a gaming rig?

If yes I would be tempted to Ebay the lot tbh.

The rest of the components arent exactly going to set the world on fire in a games, then use the cash to build a decent computer :D

Ok so i have decided on swapping out the mobo and case for these.

Its going to be the easiest solution for me anyway.

As said its not the best hardware in the world but it was free and if anyone has any suggestions on a better mobo for a similar price i would be happy to listen.
