3D printing - one for knighty

has your printer arrived? i've had an idea while laid in bed unable to sleep.

im going to replicate my own blade chassis for microserver mainboards. so i'll need you to print some sort of shelves. since the alternative is to make it from wood and that'd be pikey.

nope, it's not here yet, should be sometime in the next couple of weeks (slow post from china, and they didn't post it till 2 weeks after I ordered it!)

soon as it gets here, no probs, I'll print anything you like :-)

One thing that might be interesting to try and print...the focus stacking software I use can generate 3D models. It uses the EXIF data in the photos and the focus information to map out the shape of the subject as it's photographed at different focus points. It's only a model of one side, but can be quite accurate if done right. I could do a beetle at super detail levels and send you the model to see what you could do...?

The other one to try is "Structure From Motion", essentially taking loads of photos of something from different points, and mapping it together. This can generate proper 3D models... Could try it with a building, scale it down, and see if you can print a 1" high replica of your house...?
