Title: ETGlobalSolution Problem!
Post by: soopahfly on June 26, 2006, 12:07:56 PM
My GF signed up for a hosting package and domain with ETGlobal Solution.

The domain comes back as belonging to her when we do a whois, but we cant log onto the Cpanel.

Weve tried www.offschoolsick.com/cpanel and its just not resolving.
Were in a mad rush to get this working as its for her assignment which needs to be in tomorrow.  And this is the weakest link in the chain.

Weve raised a support ticket yesterday evening, and havent got a response yet though I have been reliably informed that they can be slow to respond.

Come on Crocket, Sort it out!

When was the record created? It can take a few days for the DNS records to propogate upwards.

If its really urgent for an assignemnt, get the person looking at it to browse by IP.

hmm, ive found that DNS ususally propegates within an hour nowadays :/

Set up bind on my dedi a while back, bought a domain added the bind record and it worked 10mins later from a number of remote locations.

Right. First of all, Im on irc.quakenet.org pretty much 24/7 idling in #etglobalsolution - mIRC users clicky (http://irc://irc.uk.quakenet.org/etglobalsolution) Under the nickname [Adam]

If you need *immediate* support, then please feel free to use IRC. It is by no means an official method of support, but if Im there.. Ill answer your question :)

Im also in the #tekheads channel on Quakenet. Any probs, gimme a shout o/

so where is support and why has it taken so long to sort for sara?
I had the same problem the other week. TBF thoings have quite good but they seem to havde totally fallen apart now, including the website.
Are ETGS going to be continuing for much longer?

Does anyone know if there is a problem at ETGS?

My site was down all yesterday and today, I cant log in to raise a ticket, the phone number has a problem according to the phone people, and the e-mail I sent has bounced backs after 50 attempts to deliver it.

Additionally, their support forum is down due to forum licence issues, the Service Update s & News link says There appears to be an error with the database, and the Service Status - Server link says Error: config.php does not exist.

As you can imagine, I am very worried.  :(

Thanks for your help - do you have any idea what the problem was?

My own site is not back  :(  - in fact, I am now getting this message:

Internet Services - Best Quality Hosting, No Compromises, Ever.

SUSPENDED ACCOUNT - YOUR HOSTING ACCOUNT HAS BEEN SUSPENDED!

Dear Customer,
Your account has been suspended. This could be due to billing issues or violation of our terms and conditions.

If you have any problems, please email us: support [at] etglobalsolution.co.uk

Our Support Portal is online at: http://www.etglobalsolution.co.uk/support/

Telephone: 02070 438 799

Sincerely yours,
ETGlobalSolution Ltd

I paid for 12 months up front, and that was only in March this year.  And I have used the space very little, and certainly not for anything that should get me suspended.

Do you know of any other way I can contact them?  I really need to get this sorted out.

lol the reason I left them was due to the fact that they never got their support website working at all.

Since they moved hosts about 3 years ago, they have not bothered fixing it. My website got hacked due to their insecurities, and as they refused to keep their own website and servers up to date, I left.

I am ashamed to have recommended them to others previously. Adam was really the only one who did anything technical there, Crocket was more on the business side.

What i would really like is a single web hosting company in the uk that i can actually trust, they all seem to be a bunch of cowboys, best i have come across is 34sp.com

There are just no safe big names that i feel i can rely on

How did you prove that your website was hacked due to their insecurities?  I may have to do the same.

They have finally replied to me:

Quote
The website (infact the whole server) was down due to the content of your website.

Your account had copied data from HSBC to gain bank account details on your site.

I attach a screenshot for your attention.

We are currently routing through your files and website to find the cause and will notify HSBC directly as they reported the issue.

We will automatically unsuspend the account once we are satisfied with the outcome this is due to take around 12 days due to the seriousness of the above case.

Thank You,
Nitesh Patel

The screen shot they included shows a log in window for internet banking.  The directory it is in is a directory called chat.  I remember installing a chat thing out of Fantastico, but it wasnt a patch on MSN.  We played with it for about 20 minutes, and never touched it again since - that was about 6 months ago.

I dont see how anyone could have got in there to do anything like that.  This is so awful -  I just dont know what to do next, or how I can prove this is not my fault.

Chances are someone has hacked in, they will not have used your computer to do it though so you should be safe enough.

CHECK YOUR COMPUTER FOR NASTIES. Its unlikely but they may have managed to install a keylogger on or similar software and grabbed your login details.

Also think if you have allowed access to anyone else. Occasionally friends do stupid things like post your stuff on the internet.

Post by: Sweenster on December 20, 2006, 23:55:05 PM
my guess is the chat thing you installed wasnt kept upto date and someone found a flaw in the php

allowed them to write their own code to the site

happens with large scale stuff like blogging sites and bulletin boards quite a bit

No, nobody has access to my computer but me, so it should be safe.

I run Windows Firewall, AVG, Spy Sweeper, Spyware Doctor, and Spybot (all at the same time), so hopefully they keep the nasties away between them.  I will scan though.

No one has ever been given the passwords for the control panel or the FTP access.  One person has access to a subdirectory, but she cant access anything but that, and only knows how to put pics in it.

That may be - I never went back to it after we decided it was rubbish.  What I cant figure out is how a hacker even found my site, I have the robots.txt set to no robots, so it shouldnt be listed anywhere.

Quote

That must be why Invision keeps releasing new patches for their IPB boards, I guess.  I dont remember seeing any for the PHPBB boards though.

Thanks very much for your help and advice, both of you.  I will now go and scan my computer...

Finding a site is easy, you just set some software up to ping random addresses and see if there is any reply. If there is then you have found yourself a site.

that is similar to what happened with mine.

PHPBB2 got hacked. Also my website I had an admin panel for (created by myself) got hacked because of a PHP function they left enabled, which I had no need for, yet was highly documented as a large security risk.

The fact of the matter is, on their IRC support chatroom I remember having a conversation with Adam about this, and showing him exactly what someone could do on their servers using a simple PHP script you could download from the net. Telling him I was concerned about the security of their servers. Adam told me hed told crocket, but not to worry as it was so obscure a risk that it wasnt worth worrying about. Only wish I kept the damn logs of that conversation now.

It was a large enough hole that someone could run shell commands on their server, and view all accounts, upload any files they wanted, and download any files they wanted from any folder providing the user "nobody" had read/write access to it. HTACCESS even got bypassed.

The thing to do is move away from bedroom hosting companies and spend a little more to be with a big name like Fasthosts. I too learned the hard way.

Im with etglobalsolution (my website is conceptex.co.uk), and have had some problems with them recently - i.e. my website would be up one day and down another, and it only receiving some of the emails...

But a couple of days ago my website and email completely went down, along with:
etglobalsolution.co.uk
etglobalsolution.com
kcart.co.uk
mindslap.co.uk
modded.me.uk
(They own these websites too)

And as some of you may already know... they NEVER answer their phone, even if we could get the number - which we cant - because their site is down.

This is ridiculous, our ordering system is hosted on our website along with our company website..... my head is going to explode.

Vent some frustration? I found this review site: http://www.webhostingstuff.com/review/ETGlobalSolution.html

Still as bad as ever over here....

https://www.etglobalsolution.co.uk/support/
is down.

phone number redirects to another number, which goes to an answering machine where messages dont get returned.

Nobody replies to any emails.

At the moment my MySQL server is down, but that varies between email, main website and FTP server.

Surely this is illegal? Not being able to contact a company you have a contract with or purchase from?

Im contacting trading standards anyway, they have been very sucessful with less than co-operative hosts in my past (including one that tried to sue me because my virtual server got hacked - which was their fault).

So if "Nitesh" or whoever reads this, I suggest you phone me because Im going in to our local Trading Standards office on Friday. Oh and doing this isnt going out my way because I work in the town centre.

Have a nice day.

It is about time the uk had a tradings body for hosting companies, similar to as ofcom is to communications companies

The amount of very shoddy companies doing this are shocking and being able to trust companies is difficult without anything to base it on

Well, now you can !

Just do as this guy did to his host at this link:

We are paying for a service, and not receiving that service!
Not only that, but hes charged me for 3 years and Ive been with them for less than 2.
AND we cannot contact the company either.

i though Easyhosts were bad, ETGS guys make me cringe.  I have server space with a small supplier, but ive had no problems, and about 5 days downtime in the 4 years ive been using them.

If people are now being billed for a service they arent receiving then i would be contacting the police.  I think it would come under the classification of fraud.

I spoke to the chap over MSN three times and received three confirmations of cancellation. My account still ran on until it would have normally expired and then they tried to re-bill me but fortunately my switch card has expired so theyve been hitting me with invoices ever since.

But its good enough for a regular site, and 3 days of that was a cable break while they sorted it out.  the other 2 days were respectively a physical server move from one place to another, and a bad RAM stick.

Theyve just automatically taken payment for another year - not been using them for about 6 months and have asked for cancellation several times by email :(

Have you managed to sort this out yet?

I can no longer provide any help re: etgs problems. I used to help out but it appears ive been locked out and had my domain/account deleted. 4 years help and now, nothing.. nice eh? Oh and I just got an invoice for £300.

As a wise man once said.. wtf is this sh*t?!

I feel really sorry for you man, you were always there helping people on IRC and youve been royally shafted too now it seems :disappointed:

Bedroom webhosts?

Another name for C**TS.

I suggest everyone start making chargebacks, etc. and filing claims with the bank, and involve the authorities if necessary.

I feel well sh*t about this whole affair. :(

Wish I never ever recommended them so vocally to you lot. They were a great host for 2 years, then it all went to sh*te, thankfully I got out, but I know some of you, sara included, landed in the crap with regards to this and my recommendation. I apologise profusely, I had no idea that itd turn out like that.

Adam was the main reason I approved of them so much, his help and constant availability online made any issue I have almost a non-issue.

Nitesh however is a complete twat.

Hello All,

Just thought Id clear up the situation, we do not rebill for any hosting accounts automatically it is done via WorldPay.

Most customers will cancel their automatic rebilling namely called FuturePay Agreement which is the agreement between the customer and worldpay to rebill for services automatically until the agreement is cancelled.

As for the support, hosting etc we are unable to cover our costs hence we have cut back drastically and currently is in a sustainable state again.

You can contact WorldPay on: 0870 366 1233 to cancel the agreement or you can login to WorldPay directly and cancel the agreement.

If you have been billed incorrectly please email: crocket

Refunds will be issued within 14 working days however may be delayed dependant of my workload.

We WILL be working with WorldPay ASAP to cancel all agreements so rebilling does not occur unless you specifically re-input your card details to renew service.

For any customers who are with us and have submitted renewals service will continue as normal.

Regards,
Nitesh

** Please also email the above address if you require domain releases etc

Hmm, sounds like balls to me.

Contact each customer individually and beg forgiveness, otherwise youre f**ked. Sorry for the language but its word of mouth that made you, and its word of mouth that will screw you.

Edit - Was just thinking, what happened if MS said tommorow screw you all lol. Theyd get away with millions of pounds, only 1/3 of which would be recovered. Bill would be lolling.

Cmon bedroom hosts, prove you have the balls.

(Damn Im feeling agressive tonight).

Mr White Giant,

Bedroom hosts, would one really be Limited and be VAT registered?

Get your facts straight.

How can you compare Microsoft and one company which is not even 10,000 of the size in turnover!

TBH, not up for discussion if your not a customer, and your not according to our records, you dont require a refund so why post and ruin it for our customers?

Read up the thread, it would appear from various comments that YOU ruined it for your customers, not Paddy.

Im fairly sure it is up for discussion, 6 pages of this thread seems to think so.

Only requires £89 last time I checked for VAT registering. All of the staff doing sales in my previous company were all VAT registered. Even have companies out there that will be your nominated secretary.

In fact its piss to become a vat registered ltd company. All you need is an accountant, and a few names/addresses.

Lets go over some comments on your hosting anyway.

The security of those servers is laughable.
The uptime is also laughable.
"We are unable to cover our costs" - Organisation... laughable.
The way you have treated your customers - not laughable, just downright inexcusable.

Wonder if theyll be getting interest paid back on their wrongly taken funds in line with some percentage above the base rate, calculated daily. Probably not, but they should.

Final mark of unprofessionalism: Your website, has not worked correctly since you created the company.

In crockets defense, what do you all expect for £2/year?
Title: ETGlobalSolution Problem!
Post by: M3ta7h3ad on September 15, 2007, 18:09:07 PM
Was £15 as far as I was aware. If a company is unable to offer the service at the prices offered then he should never have advertised it as a false promise.

We didnt choose the payment structure of his company. He did. So I fail to see how thats possibly any defence for him.

It doesnt matter how much or how little the service is, repeat billing and ignoring cancellation requests is out of order.

Thats just not right. All other subscription accounts I have that use a 3rd party payment system on the net, you cancel through the service you use, or at least, the service you use has an option for cancellation that takes you to the correct payment page to make that change. I wasnt even aware my account hadnt bee cancelled, even though I asked a long long time ago, until I got billed just now. Its only £10, but being an unemployed student, thats a lot. Especially as MS has decided to shaft me out of an extra £40 for no reason. needless to say, thats being disputed, and so will the £10 unless something can be done.

Sadly I only found out I had to AFTER theyd taken the money out. Well have to see whether they can refund as my expectations of your service mean I doubt Ill even get a reply to the email I just sent you.

To crockets credit I have never just had a payment sucked from my account and there has been a time when I owed him six months and he still didnt cut me loose.

There has been a bit of a problem with down time, but you cant always guarantee your server will be functional with b*stads trying to hack in regularly. Software and updates means that it will go down sometime and if everything goes at once there will be a delay in getting it back up again.

Nope, their service this last year and a bit hasnt been anywhere near what it should be, but there were reasons, and I can understand them, even if they shouldnt have happened.

It is very difficult operating on a very marginal profit.

Youd have thought Id learnt my lesson with using cheap hosts. But I didnt. For the last year Ive been using a site called hostgator. ubercheap and offers similar packages to what ETGS offered. The difference being that if you email them, even on a sunday, you get a reply back within an hour or two, even at 11pm. (probably due to time differences)

Not had any problems with outages or anything like that either. might be worth looking into for people that want online storage for a basic site, but arent needing lots of traffic or commercial stuff much....

may i suggest : http://topducks.com

also known as http://ihostwebservices.com

Again, only a small company, but he makes it because there is a great level of personal service, and hes been going for years.  I think hes been hosting my own site for over 3 years now, and to be fair he prices are pretty good.  the server is fully managed so if it goes down its back up in minutes normally.  he is a US based host though, so some of you may not be interested, but to be fair, ive had no problems myself, and niether has anyone else i know that uses them.  Hell also eject spammers and no-mark morons from the service if they are causing issues.  The "Problem" for some folks is that they prefer to see stated prices, while Kevin prefers to spec you on what package you think youll need.

Crocket, Ive been trying to pay my latest bill, but your worldpay payments arent working. This is incredibly annoying, since your automated system has now taken down my site due to failure to pay. Ive raised a support ticket in your billing section, but its still listed as "New".
