New case and contents.
on: April 28, 2007, 18:20:09 PM
I thought about getting an AMD 4000+ jobbie but ended up ordering this lot to update my present 2500+ Barton cored unit that was gasping on some games even when overclocked by 300Mhz. Should give me some extra headroom in performance for a year or two.

Decided not to get Windaz Vishnu...

(Vishnu is also described in the Bhagavad Gita as having a Cosmic Form which is beyond the ordinary limits of human sense perception - as in why would they want it to do that bloody stupid thing for?)

Nice setup, though I would be inclined to RAID it if you dont keep unrecoverable data on it.  Was considering one of the 6420s when i got my new shiny setup, but opted for the 6000+ instead.

About £850, Just do the math for ya cause I bought a couple of their mugs/ratpads too.

mobo £139.83
cpu £119.89
GC £269.96
ram £99.99
case  £58.69
psu £56.40
HD £78.00
R-writer  £20.97

Total £843.73 but they are shoving the mobo, cpu, graphics into the case and testing them for me so a tenner for that plus postage. Prices include vat and are £100 less than last month so Im reasonably happy. Last setup I bought from Tekheads has lasted me three years and only craps out on a few high spec games like Stalker. If this keeps me going for a similar time I will be happy again :)

My brother upgraded his 3200+ a week ago when I found a 3800+cpu on special, with a new heavyweight cooler it cost less than £50!   Handles pretty nicely TBH...

My brother has raid on his, every so often we find a game that doesnt like it - usually every one he wants to play so its going to get an extra IDE drive in for those  Still think I might add a second drive in a few months tho ;)

stuff arrived this morning, packaged to Clockds standards - two metres of bubble wrap around the re-writer and usual box for the HD unit :ptu:

So far I have put the PSU and optical drive in the case. The case is very nice, no removable mobo tray but otherwise its very good. 25cm side fan should give extreme cooling for the internal bits and the front doors are just right, clunk closed like they should.

Should be getting on with the rest of it but decided to have a look on here instead :)

Its been up to post and everything seems to be OK, only little fly in the ointment is no 3 1/2" visible drive bay for an internal card reader, guess I will have to do some modding to one of the panels. Processor was cooler in bios than the motherboard as with many of these, but that was without the case fans going, will have to try monitoring the temp again.
