Out of the following, which should I watch first?
on: August 09, 2007, 19:45:31 PM
So Ive become a bit obsessed with spy/espionage movies lately. Ive manage to go through quite a few over the last coupla months and I think Im almost down to the final lot. Mostly stuff from this side of 1970, although I do plan to go through the old Alfred Hitchcock ones at some point.

As Ive watched most the more popular ones, Im gonna go through some of the older or more obscure ones, although Im struggling to make my mind up on what to watch tonight out of the following...

Sneakers (1992)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105435/

Breach (2007)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0401997/

Three Days of the Condor (1975)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073802/

Spy Game (2001)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266987/

If you had to choose which would you pick? Open to suggestions for others, although theres a good chance Ive probably seen it.

Ive seen 2 on your list, Spy Game and Breach. Id recommend Spy Game. Breach was thoroughly dissapointing to say the least.

Ive heard thats good although I still need to get it.

Ended up watching Spy Game, which I went into with low expectations. Turned out to be very good and thoroughly enjoyed it.

While were on the subject has anyone seen The Good Shepard (2006)?

Probably one of the best espionage movie Ive seen and a highlight for 2006 in general. Glad De Niro picked up the reigns after Copolla decided not to continue the project.

Matt Damon really seems to be going from strength to strength with this, the Bourne series, Syriana, the Oceans series and the Departed.

Another one for you to watch if you havent already:

The Recruit
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0292506/

Good film, although I think the 6.5 on imdb doesnt do it justice.

I dont think IMDb do things justice, their no1 film is on 9.1 (the God Father),
also thunderpants only get this, User Rating: 2.6/10, IMO its very funny and a favorite for my kids and friends.

Ive seen it (few days ago actually) although it didnt completely win me over. Al Pacino is great as always, but I hated the ending. It was so of the shelf and boring (it actually annoyed me tbh).

Colin Farrell was pretty mediocre in it as well.

The IMDB rating does have its quirks but I think it works overall and is pretty fair. If you look at how they actually weight the ratings it makes sense.

Code: [Select]

The formula for calculating the Top Rated 250 Titles gives a true Bayesian estimate:

weighted rating (WR) = (v ÷ (v+m)) × R + (m ÷ (v+m)) × C

 where:
R = average for the movie (mean) = (Rating)
v = number of votes for the movie = (votes)
m = minimum votes required to be listed in the Top 250 (currently 1300)
C = the mean vote across the whole report (currently 6.7)

for the Top 250, only votes from regular voters are considered.

Sneakers. Love that film.

Make sure you include Enemy of the State also.
It's all fun and games until a 200' robot dinosaur shows up and trashes Neo-Tokyo… Again.
