Hope you're right neXus, it makes sense for this to be on 'next gen' hardware

Yeah I guess it would be nice for people if it was on the new consoles too but I think they'll generally sell well regardless - this game, like the last one, will be hyped up a lot.

For me personally (the only reason I bought a PS2 was for San Andreas and the only reason I bought a PS3 was for GTAIV) it would likely save me a bit of cash by having a PS3 version.

Dogs, Sharks... awesome - glad they've brought back swimming underwater too.

Looks like there are multiple characters? Haven't been reading the rumours etc.. but does this look like it will be the case? Like you could play the game following several different story lines/sets of missions?

It is not about selling well or not.
Take the latest assassins creed for example. Runs crap on consoles because it was being aimed at new consoles. PC versions has more going on, runs smoother and looks dam nice but the consoles suffered from bad framerate and other issues.
The console life cycle has gone on longer then in the past and the Xbox specifically they held off on for example.

I am pretty sure the new GTA ideally they want to be a launch title. Halo 4 is the first of a new series of Halo games and again you would think would normally be for a new console.
It runs and looks amazing on the 360 but you can tell it can do more if on a better machine. What will they do for 2? Put it on old and new? Bit odd, 3rd would defiantly be on the new console, the end of a series on the new generation?
Odd.

We are seeing new Unreal engine game trailers and demos of unspecified platform games.

Developers are having a real hard time of things and companies are going under because of the various reasons but one being the lack of new console release.
Sony have an event soon but were insisting PS3 would be it for some time still to come but you know developers will be pleading for new consoles to rejuvenate their sales.

They are trying to drag it out because no one wants to buy a new console every couple of years, that's what always seperated the consoles from the PCs. I'm not surprised they want to wrangle as much out of the hardware as possible.

most if not all consoles are sold at a loss, the price paid by Joe Public is lower than the cost to make and distribute the item. Where they make their money is in selling games and post market extras.

A new console is a massive monetary loss, at least initially. A new game that sells for an old console is almost instant profit. Guess which one the console manufacturers prefer.

Quote
IGN:
GTA V is only confirmed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Why not the PC, Wii U and so on?

"Everything else is up for consideration. That's all I can give you. The main thing is we are not... we are a third-party publisher. We're not Nintendo, we're not Sony, we're not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there's the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market. If that's on Apple we put something on Apple. Wherever it might be. I think that's the fun in what we do. We see ourselves as a content company that uses technology. We don't make it; we use it to make the most fun stuff."

IGN:
Why isn't GTA V a next-gen launch title?

"Some other people talk about the limitations of the [current] hardware. We don't feel there are that many limitations. We feel we can do some very impressive stuff and do it for a large audience. This felt like the way... There'll be a much larger audience on PS3 than there will be on PS4. At a creative level, which is the most important for us, we could say everything we wanted to say and do everything we wanted to do on these machines. We didn't sit there saying, "We'd like to do this in the game, but we can't." There's plenty of power in these machines."

You should rephrase it that most consoles at launch are sold at a loss. After some time they revise them with cheaper components to cut costs and like the xbox for a while now it makes money per sale.

bump

Particularly like the fact the grove street lot from san andreas are back

haven't read much about the game yet but three characters? is there going to be an option to play each of them? edit... seems there is and you can switch between them during missions...

Just wondering about the free roaming bit then... presumably you can save a game and chose to start as any of the three or something?

Looks like they're trolling Scientology with this org that's *not* a cult... has been mentioned in previous games but we'll get characters from it appearing in GTAV

Did anyone pre-order the bonkers expensive collectors ed?

Nowhere near as cool stuff as the GTA4 one, but I still did :-[

I'm tempted... though am wondering if the extra digital content will likely be available later anyway as downloadable content.

Which special edition did you get?

Is that a lockable canvas bag?

I would be tempted to get that if it was half the price.
