It is a little odd though when you think about it.
Spring - E3, New Consoles shown off. They could have had another year development and been a launch title on the new consoles, dont you think? Rake in the money.
This will be one of the last big games on this generation and will be a while then before you see another GTA on the new generation.

I would hazard a guess that actually they are already working on the next incarnation and while this is a bigger game its still old tech as you pointed out, so no doubt hasn't required quite the same level of development. Companies like Rockstar will aways get given a heads up on new hardware so I don't reckon it will be as long as you think for the next one.

Plausibly you would think they could release GTA5 on next gen also, throw some DLC/new content on top of the new shiny graphics and pretty much everyone will be happy to port their character over to the 'new' game.

this is awesome... the only reason I bought a console in recent times... was addicted to GTA, GTA London, GTA2 through uni then GTA3, GTA Vice city... when serving in Iraq someone had a PS2 with them with san andreas on - playing GTA while sat in a portacabin on an airfield on 5 minutes notice to move was a bit surreal... a couple of times I did have to pause my game, grab my kit and run out to an actual helicopter

anyway shortly after I returned to the UK I bought a PS2 and san andreas... then later the only reason I bought a PS3 was to play GTA4 (also ended up getting red dead redemption too)

I pretty much don't play computer games at all these days - but if rockstar release something, especially if its the next incarnation of the GTA series, then I'll happily fork out for a new console if necessary just to play that game,

This was supposed to be for the next gen consoles, specifically the next Xbox but that was pushed back a year so they have been in a pickle with this one and it is the last big title probably that will hit the current gen.
May have some FPS issues and it may be best on PC as long as its not a year wait for it.

So then wil this be new console ready.
And if not, I have to ask the question of if this will sell or not and so late.
Likely E3 we will see pS4 and new Xbox. New Xbox will be more ready for prime time ANd could be on sale at xmas if not earlier because if rumours are accurate its been delayed due to kinnect bringing in a good amount of wonga.

Hope you're right neXus, it makes sense for this to be on 'next gen' hardware
Title: Re: Grand Theft Auto: V
Post by: Dave on February 02, 2013, 14:37:19 PM
Yeah I guess it would be nice for people if it was on the new consoles too but I think they'll generally sell well regardless - this game, like the last one, will be hyped up a lot.

For me personally (the only reason I bought a PS2 was for San Andreas and the only reason I bought a PS3 was for GTAIV) it would likely save me a bit of cash by having a PS3 version.

Dogs, Sharks... awesome - glad they've brought back swimming underwater too.

Looks like there are multiple characters? Haven't been reading the rumours etc.. but does this look like it will be the case? Like you could play the game following several different story lines/sets of missions?
Title: Re: Grand Theft Auto: V
Post by: neXus on February 03, 2013, 22:50:28 PM
It is not about selling well or not.
Take the latest assassins creed for example. Runs crap on consoles because it was being aimed at new consoles. PC versions has more going on, runs smoother and looks dam nice but the consoles suffered from bad framerate and other issues.
The console life cycle has gone on longer then in the past and the Xbox specifically they held off on for example.

I am pretty sure the new GTA ideally they want to be a launch title. Halo 4 is the first of a new series of Halo games and again you would think would normally be for a new console.
It runs and looks amazing on the 360 but you can tell it can do more if on a better machine. What will they do for 2? Put it on old and new? Bit odd, 3rd would defiantly be on the new console, the end of a series on the new generation?
Odd.

We are seeing new Unreal engine game trailers and demos of unspecified platform games.

Developers are having a real hard time of things and companies are going under because of the various reasons but one being the lack of new console release.
Sony have an event soon but were insisting PS3 would be it for some time still to come but you know developers will be pleading for new consoles to rejuvenate their sales.
Title: Re: Grand Theft Auto: V
Post by: Clock'd 0Ne on February 03, 2013, 23:08:14 PM
They are trying to drag it out because no one wants to buy a new console every couple of years, that's what always seperated the consoles from the PCs. I'm not surprised they want to wrangle as much out of the hardware as possible.
Title: Re: Grand Theft Auto: V

most if not all consoles are sold at a loss, the price paid by Joe Public is lower than the cost to make and distribute the item. Where they make their money is in selling games and post market extras.

A new console is a massive monetary loss, at least initially. A new game that sells for an old console is almost instant profit. Guess which one the console manufacturers prefer.

IGN:
GTA V is only confirmed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Why not the PC, Wii U and so on?

"Everything else is up for consideration. That's all I can give you. The main thing is we are not... we are a third-party publisher. We're not Nintendo, we're not Sony, we're not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there's the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market. If that's on Apple we put something on Apple. Wherever it might be. I think that's the fun in what we do. We see ourselves as a content company that uses technology. We don't make it; we use it to make the most fun stuff."

IGN:
Why isn't GTA V a next-gen launch title?

"Some other people talk about the limitations of the [current] hardware. We don't feel there are that many limitations. We feel we can do some very impressive stuff and do it for a large audience. This felt like the way... There'll be a much larger audience on PS3 than there will be on PS4. At a creative level, which is the most important for us, we could say everything we wanted to say and do everything we wanted to do on these machines. We didn't sit there saying, "We'd like to do this in the game, but we can't." There's plenty of power in these machines."

You should rephrase it that most consoles at launch are sold at a loss. After some time they revise them with cheaper components to cut costs and like the xbox for a while now it makes money per sale.

bump

Particularly like the fact the grove street lot from san andreas are back

haven't read much about the game yet but three characters? is there going to be an option to play each of them? edit... seems there is and you can switch between them during missions...

Just wondering about the free roaming bit then... presumably you can save a game and chose to start as any of the three or something?

Things to know about GTA V Online

    You can insure your car

All of the activities you can do in Single Player you can also do in GTA Online, which include, robbing stores, heists, races, gang attacks, sports like tennis, BASE jumping, golf and more, plus 'ambient' events like armoured van robberies, crate drops, import/export car acquisition, bounties, the stock market and more

Online you can earn RP, Reputation Points, cash and more, including houses which you can equip with cctv, deluxe garages that can house 10 customized vehicles, tvs and more.

Trains, planes and dynamic events all work online. No more will the world feel like a lite version, like it did in GTA 4.

Vehicle radios are shared, so as a passenger you can change the radio station

When sticking up a store online, if you shout demands into your headset such as "load the money into the bag quicker!" the AI will comply and hurry up.

When doing robberies, whoever does the job gets the cash and can decide how much to share with your friends

Your custom cars show as markers on the map and get impounded if you leave them too long. Simply pay to retrieve them.

Rockstar will constantly add missions and content to GTA Online, plus players can create their own missions using the Creator tools.

it's possible to spread the wealth by sharing cash, weapons and ammo among your team. In turn, they can 'defect' and try to steal your cash so, like life, GTA Online is an exercise in trust and social dynamics.

If you get killed holding all your cash, a portion will spill onto the streets. It's important to keep cash for your daily activities, and deposit the rest in the bank. Or wager it on races. Or invest in the stock market

You can use an ATM to deposit and withdraw money

You can even attack listed companies and damage their share price. At one extreme, you might need a bodyguard to make drops at the bank. In your house, you can take showers, use your cctv to see who is at your front door, surf the web and watch TV. From the safety of your house, you can watch people within your 16-player game being chased by the cops, just like Police Camera Action.

It's going to be nuts, will this be a case of if you buy prime real estate in game online it will have an actual value to someone in real life?

Insane.

The fact that you can manipulate the stock market in the game is crazy enough, I can definitely see people throwing real money at this game to get things (or indeed to make money off real estate, etc).

I'm concerned if the ps3 version is going to send my monitor wappy (360 is what I've been mucking about on, not doing the missons really)

new apps launched today

iFriut:

Quote
Grand Theft Auto: iFruit – featuring Los Santos Customs and Chop the Dog

The free iFruit mobile app hooks directly into your Grand Theft Auto V experience featuring:

Los Santos Customs - The Los Santos Customs app offers players the freedom to create their ultimate vehicle in Grand Theft Auto V from anywhere. At the bar, on the beach, on the toilet. This is the future, we’re almost sure of it. You can even create and reserve custom license plates for both Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online – order your personalized plates before they’re gone! Also choose from paint jobs, window tints, smoke colors, wheels, hoods and spoilers. Upgrade your engine, brakes, exhaust, suspension, and accessorize with new lights, horns, tires and body armor. Place your order on-the-go and find it waiting for you in the garage the next time you play Grand Theft Auto V, or send your order in while playing and get a call from your local mechanic to swing by. Everybody’s had some work done in Los Santos, so don’t let your ride be the exception to the rule.

Chop the Dog - Depth of content, high production values, defecation. It’s the app that has it all. Because who doesn’t love tending to a virtual pet? Chop is Franklin’s canine sidekick in Grand Theft Auto V. Look after him well in the Chop the Dog app and you will reap the benefits when playing as Franklin in Grand Theft Auto V. Pet him, feed and water him, play fetch and tug-of-war, teach him tricks. Too much or too little of an activity, however, will cause Chop to become unhappy, and nobody likes an unhappy Rottweiler. Take Chop on walks to give him a chance to work off last night’s steak and Piswasser and to mark his turf in the hood - defending his ladies, fending off gang members and even protecting the beach babes of Los Santos from unsightly tan lines by removing their bikinis.

also some GTA Manual

No Android version yet. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=Rockstar+Games,+Inc.) All the best plates will already be gone. :-X

Still, can always have fun elbowing and punching Mimes in the face, then running them over with a bulldozer. ;D

These plates and things, are they bought with real money? It's an interesting evolution of gaming if so, where if the plates can be traded for money it opens up all sorts of new markets for commerce, land grabs for plates that might be worth something later...

Anyone else a little underwhelmed with the size of the map? It only takes about 10mins to drive the entire freeway loop, used to take a hell of a lot longer to drive around gta:san andreas.

Ive only played a few hours so far and am enjoying it but its not as 'epic' as I was expecting but maybe I'm expecting to much to soon.

Yeah, the only bigger (non-MMO) open-world games are Just Cause 1/2, FUEL, and maybe the little-known Boiling Point/White Gold AFAIK.

And there's all that area underwater to explore too, coves, tunnels, trenches, sunken ships, hidden entrances...

Just beware of the sharks, as you only have the knife usable whilst scuba-diving. I tried punching one on the nose... It didn't work out quite so well. :P

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 20, 2013-- Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO) today announced that Grand Theft Auto V, the critically acclaimed latest release from the iconic interactive entertainment series, has achieved worldwide retail sales of more than $1 billion during its first three days on sale, according to Company estimates. Bullet time is cool in Max Payne but that makes this look way too easy when you can keep freezing every other second to lob bombs.

I had assumed that was some kind of software/mod/hack thing that he used to put the video together.

If it's in the game, how does it work? Is it limited like in Max Payne?

bullet time is a special that one of the characters do.. it does run out & then regenerates.
It is needed as some of missions would be pretty tough without it.

Sums up GTA online.

I played online for the first time last night and wasnt impressed. Its quite addictive just driving around messing about and occasionally having a fight with a random other online peraon but the missions, races etc are all pretty poor as is the matchmaking system.

I think online is really boring.

They are suppose to be releasing Heist missions next month. I don't know why they didn't release the heists when the online version was released......as at the moment its boring as fcuk!!

Unfortunately for GTA online the new xbox and PS are released......

I also find online boring.
done the money cheat, so got me some nice motors & a house - oh & a plane.
But its boring. driving around, getting grief, then doing repetitive missions.
There is absolutely no point. I was kind of hoping you could group up & drive around (like in a mmorpg) & do instances like robbing a bank (similar to holding up a store/petrol station) & not have to go through instances of waiting 10mins for everything to load & some dick not pressing hte continue button.

Did anyone find single player far far too easy? It was fun, but not exactly hard :-X

Egg, I think those type of missions are being released next month. Should make the game better, but still too late. For example, you need an apartment for some of the new Heists to be able to plan the job etc.

Whats the money cheat? Can you get banned for using it?

Matt, Yes it was very easy! Too easy, and over too quick really. Was fun though.

I think it would make it better if it was more like an mmorpg and you had to choose a group to belong to and people in the same group have to work together or at least cant kill each other that way every time you drive past another online person it doesnt become a shootout to the death.

its been fixed now - but it was possible to dupe cars & sell.
Basically you would start a new game. load online (invite only session)
park nice expensive car outside la customs
get crap car & enter customs shop
press sell on basic crap car (only press sell once not confirm)
pause - enter ps/xbox store to buy credits - dont buy credits. exit store
repeat until your character spawns outside in your best car
enter LA customs in nice expensive car
sell car & imedietly press pause & enter PS/xbox store again. then exit store.
you will have kept the credits + the car.
Wash & repeat until you get bored.

but like I said, its been fixed now. Better car you have, the quicker it was to dupe credits.

I got the game on pre-order... finally had time to play it for an hour two nights ago... not really done much though I think despite the short storyline I'll likely be taking several months to complete at this rate... still haven't found time to finish GTA IV or red dead redemption

did like the way the intro mission was a bit more action packed than the usual ones....
